Sand and Silence

Writers Island prompts: On what journey does “Lost Highway” send your imagination? Please share with us where this prompt leads you! Read what others have written and feel free to join in!

roadrunners, rodents
and high hopping hares
silent as the purple dawn
track over and back

cartographers
cruise the desert
fail to chart the spore
marking the mesa's foot

six miles from nowhere
disregarded, unseen
the path clung there
all along

What an imagination you have and what a great post. I love the sketch of the cactus as well.

"unseen the path clung there all along"--I love this line. The entire poem is so vivid!

Sue,
Lots of highways lost to the shifting sands I expect.
Fodder for archeologists and poets! ;)

Your sketch is as poetic as your words ~ there is grace in your poetic lines and the lines marked by your hands creating lovely imageries in this post.

I wish you well.
