Bolero

Magpie Tales  offers an image for its weekly prompt - follow the link to view this week's image and to write along!

Bolero

one flippant fish
swims to Bolero
in a time-worn rite

partners to a lure
of the painted lady
reaching out to other

fluid tangling
at the edge of space
bubbles into light

its watery nebula
flash frozen
in a single globe

unaware
Bolero loops
again and again

O for ABC Wednesday

ABC WEDNESDAY ROUND 6: O

Online or Offline

About three weeks ago, the local ISP I used disappeared into the night like leftover fog. It took time to disentangle and find a replacement. And it will be another few days before I get caught up.

In the meantime, I was forced to flip through the flimsy phone book pages printed in size 3 font and search the dictionary with print too small for sight and too flat for Braille.

It's amazing how much I store in the clouds and how much time I spend reading and writing blogs, reading and sharing news and admiring photos from far away places.

Like a spider, I feel better when hanging with the web!  :) Do you?

Temporary for Magpie Tales

Magpie Tales offers an image for a weekly prompt. The image is viewable on the Magpie site.

Temporary

it was a walking aid
and only that
not a ball and chain
not an excuse
it was a walking aid
and only that

she leaned
feared to give it up
it became her excuse
her ball and chain
her support and her staff
...a stick that stifled life

M for ABC Wednesday

ABC WEDNESDAY ROUND 6: M is for...

Memories
Last week when I used the letter L for legends and leaving lullabies for family, several readers mentioned thoughts about saving their blogs.

My method is to use the portable version of Open Office which is free open source software compatible with Microsoft Office, Lotus and more. It includes a word processor, spreadsheet, presentation tool, drawing package and database. It consumes minimal space and performs all the magic I can manage.

Accessing my blog through the sign-in page/dashboard, I copy and paste to the word processor until there are as many pages as I want to keep in a file and then export that file to pdf format. It takes up very little space, can be viewed readily (complete with images) and its small size permits e-mailing with most programs.

I try to keep up with my blog month by month, save the pdf file to an external hard drive and at the end of the year publish it on Lulu.com for download in print or pdf format. My poetry books and novels are published the same way.

This method (or a similar one) might protect your blog from disappearance into Cyberia and might provide backup in case a copyright comes into question.

My opinion, only. :)  And those who know me say I have an abundance of them - opinions, that is. But maybe I have a motley mass of memories that family might want to look at sometime. Who knows?

The Tube for Magpie Tales

Magpie Tales offers a new image for this week's prompt. Click the link to see the image.

The Tube
enticement in a stick
soft, sweet glow of youth
shaped by sex-free kisses

hydrating chocolate hue
luscious look of lust
with its tiny tint of frost

until the precious dye
begins its later slide
toward faults and wrinkles

that smudge her mouth
shaped by lust-free kisses
lips that cupid missed

L for ABC Wednesday

ABC WEDNESDAY ROUND 6: L is For!

Legend and Lullaby

According to the ubiquitous Wikipedia:
'Legends are tales that, because of the tie to a historical event or location, are believable, although not necessarily believed. For the purpose of the study of legends, in the academic discipline of folkloristics, the truth value of legends is irrelevant because, whether the story told is true or not, the fact that the story is being told at all allows scholars to use it as commentary upon the cultures that produce or circulate the legends.'

Do you wonder what will happen to our blogs, posts and lives which are exposed to the mighty Internet? Is there a time capsule to hold our legends? Or will there be but a brief blurb: 'they came, they saw, they showed'.

I've tried to tell or write pieces of backgrounds for family members but there are many stories and maybe those which are most important will fall through the cracks.

Tomorrow's Lullaby

comforting and calm
as my parents’ hands
sunlight soothes my back

horizon pulls the sun
behind a giant pine
kaleidoscopes a shadow
across my tiny world

a yellow blink of bird
passes by without a song
but I yearn to leave
love’s lullaby for those who glide
in that space I leave behind

Measured

Magpie Tales offers an image for prompt. It can be viewed at the site by clicking on the link.

Measured

echoes of time
vintage spirits
and wounded trees

a breath of prayer
badgers the shabbiness
of this distant home

where fragile bones
on bending knees
offered the kiss of life

caged by glass
songs rise from ashes
echo that other time
