Sushi for Magpie Tales #55

Magpie Tales 55 Each week Willow posts an enigmatic image to draw out writers' words. This week:

Sushi

fork-pricked flesh
on the wrong side of pane

a nightmarish smear
of yellow and crimson

the cutting edge shifts
from KP to ER

sushi rolls linger
on the wrong side of pain

Searching Memory for Big Tent Poetry

Big Tent Poetry promptYou can make up your own personal holiday or celebrate an actual event that is meaningful for you.

while I try to remember what spring rites might look like.
Ten degrees and more snow today.
My memory gets thinner and colder and maybe even older.

Flare for ABC Wednesday

F for ABC Wednesday

Flare of frustration.

I can't be sure that the problems occurring with my Internet connection came from the current solar flare or malfunction of some unfindable byte, bit or thingy on my computer. Frustration flips and flops as my e-mail indicator shouts MAIL and nothing's there, blogs are slow as spring's arrival and frequent cutoffs are the norm of the day. My new 'free month of Netflix' stumbled, burped and failed off and on while I tried to watch Freakonomics.

Did you experience problems with the flare? Or was it just my day to fumble, fumble and re-fumble?

Titled for Big Tent Poetry

Big Tent Poetry prompts: (my interpretation) What's in a title and where could it be hiding?

Muse on the Loose

times fall out of favor
ennui springs forward
daily rhythm shifts
in hums of glut or gloom

the north of summer warm
cuddles south of winter
greening west of spring
dries the east of autumn

varietal ink lines
those quartered titles
some are bound by printer
others doze in ponders

running with scissors
scratches byte after byte
the novels' greedy quill
belies a lack of substance

Titles in italics are in print.

Willow at Magpie Tales offers an engimatic image for a weekly prompt. This one is #53.

A Pop of Hot for Big Tent Poetry

Big Tent Poetry prompt:  Think about what’s getting you down. Use poetry to cure it.

A Pop of Hot

I flip the heat to high
strip off the fleece hoodie
fling down knitted gloves
remove thermal suits
wool socks and down booties

to the shower I trot
run the water hard and hot
towel dry and skip around
til the sweating stretches
from the inside out

redressed in fresh layers
reset the thermostat on freeze
in that day filled with dread
I put cheer on the back burner
while holding summer in my head

Delete for ABC Wednesday

ABC Wednesday D

This might be my favorite key in the whole wide world.

I'm trying to decide how to transfer it to the sewing machine to eliminate unstitching, to my brain to avoid paths that lead to sorrow or regret and to dust bunnies and stuff that make my home look like a derelict dwells here.

In the meantime, I notice that it looks almost new while the helpful white letters are worn off the other black keys leaving no clue as to what might be produced. The seven-year-old, who dislikes typing on my keyboard, listened to my rapid typing and declared, 'No wonder there aren't any letters - they smoked off!'

Do you love your delete key or do you find it definitely not necessary?

Consultants for ABC Wednesday

C for ABC Wednesday

Consultants

How many consultants does it take to chainsaw a fallen tree into pieces?

One brother, one nephew and one grandson consult about the best way to chop this dead tree.
I couldn't hear what they said but it makes me laugh to see them huddle before the next cut.

If only I had the audio. Can you imagine what the conversation might concern?
