Poem for Totally Optional Prompts

Totally Optional Prompts post: Let's write about exercise this week.

Orphaned Thoughts

ghosts of threat
...promise carrots and
wield small sticks
treadmill hugs the wall

books lean against weights
...flexible rubber tubing
on scattered tables
pleads for a stretch

she expects to work out
...doesn't know for sure
when dust buried
thoughts of good intent

O for ABC Wednesday

ABC Wednesday prompts O for today. Thanks, MrsNesbitt!

orange segment on bean salad

onions and others for oven roast

I have to say, O has been harder than I could have imagined. Oranges, olives, oil, onions...and that's the end of my o words. And I wore out my pedometer pacing around looking for o's. The Oreos are gone! :)

Limerick for Heads or Tails

Skittles at Heads or Tales posts: HEADS - "Down On The Farm" Make any kind of post using "Down on the Farm" as your prompt. Your post should be about things or animals that could be found on a farm.

A Near Limerick

there once was a rancher named Mel
worn thin by his farm in the dell
who in one fit of pith
moved to nearby Corinth
and gave up his hard work from h*ll

That's about all I know first-hand about farms. Well, actually, I guessed at some of it and took a snap of the rest. But I did once see a headless chicken body flopping. Arggh.

Follow for Sunday Scribblings

Sunday Scribblings asks: Tell us your take on 'follow.'

Follow. I do. I am. To stay home and learn what others are doing, thinking and saying is a daily pleasure. Blogger follow works well in Google Reader and Twitter, which I initially joined to make sure I 'saved' my name, is a minute by minute surprise. It's turned into a great source of information and blog updates that I might otherwise miss. Facebook - I joined to follow updates for an anthology but haven't used it for anything else.

A lot of people use followings to promote or market but this is my first attempt ~~ Monday, if I can figure the technical part, I'll put a sticky post on Blogger and send a daily Tweet asking a vote for Sofia #190 who's in the top 20 contestants for the Baby Idol Contest presented by Spokane Radio KZZU 92.9.

It will be interesting to see if following can actually have a serious use. :)

Oh, what fun it all is!

The digital photo of Sofia #190 was snapped by her mother and forwarded to me by her grandma. I'm smitten and hope to follow her for a long time!

Poem for Totally Optional Prompts

Totally Optional Prompts offers: This week write a poem that is inspired by a quotation. The quote could be from a newpaper or magazine article or it could just be a quote that you like about life or anything.

“There is no space wider than that of grief,
there is no universe like that which bleeds.”

--Pablo Neruda

After

on the tail of wind

raw spots and bad times

breathe in the streets

double back through dust

from still warm ashes

reluctant mourners

filter knuckle bones

sift familiar bric-a-brac

beyond a thousand cuts

like a jester in the rubble

the future comes again

and finds no one at home

N for ABC Wednesday

ABC Wednesday prompts with the letter N. Thank you, Mrs.Nesbitt!

My parents and I were fascinated by Egyptian history and the thrill of seeing the King Tut exhibit in the late 1970's was totally overwhelming.

Mom began ceramic/pottery classes shortly after that and couldn't decide on the perfect colors for her 'Nefertiti'. It stayed default white.

After Mom's death, Nefertiti came to stay with me and has had several plinths as temporary homes but love for my mother and her Nefertiti remain firmly held.

Digital photo by Sue. Nefertiti was photographed on the floor in front of a window. The background was altered in Pixia and Adobe Photoshop Elements to hide the treadmill and window coverings.

Once Upon a Time for HoT

Skittles at Heads or Tails offers this prompt: TAILS - "Once upon a time"
Make a post that starts with "Once upon a time." It can be a real story or idea that you want to start that way, a fairy tale of your own, etc.

Once upon a time,
summer was long.
Once upon a time,
love was ageless.
Once upon a time,
she grew older and
the world began to tilt.
Once upon a time
it again became all right.

Flash for 3WW

ThomG, moderator of Three Word Wednesday, offers these words as prompt: perch, allure and vivid. Thanks! Come play along...

I'm trying to learn to write flash fiction. It's not as easy as others make it seem.

~~~
She'd played him like a perch on a fine line. The allure of the two-bit hustler and the shame Elmer felt when she bullied him in front of the patrons of the Drift Inn was vivid. Disturbing. And something he couldn't live with. She'd be sorry.
~~~

The image is a small watercolor which I used as the cover for War and Pieces, a 2000 Mythsteries tiny book.

M for ABC Wednesday

ABC Wednesday offers the letter M as prompt. Thank you, MrsNesbitt!

Monster vs Moon

A sight I could hardly believe. The 'monster' was visible and mind-boggling. I hope you can see it on your monitor! Click on image to make it larger. Photo was taken with an older digital point-and-shoot, using my SIL's shoulder as a tripod. :)

Scary for Sunday Scribblings

Sunday Scribblings prompts: what scares you? Follow the link to play along or to read the scary things others know.

The ability/willingness of news sources to source opinions instead of news scares me. The titillation factor, cameras closing in on suffering families and full coverage of celebs in slight clothing has replaced the news that people should scream to know.

How can people become educated when they spend so many hours watching TV and surfing the Internet where the preponderance of articles makes light of reality? Reality shows aren't. They are scripted, for the most part, by marketing writers.

Locating facts takes time and energy and yet facts should be the easiest to find.
Few take advantage of facts but base their beliefs on the hot air that explodes from kneejerkers and those who earn their money by subterfuge and vitriol.

This a scary part of the times, to me.

Ess for Totally Optional Prompts

Upside or Down ~ The Heart of Ess

a small slip of ivy
the heart of ess
curls round my thumb
fashions a smile
a sense of summer
symbolic and green

the original sin
shaped by an asp
morphs to blood stains
on spreadsheets and
scripts the bottom line
of snakes in the grass

sweet and sensual
serendipitous
curves to a spiral
the siren call
of the seasonal ess
a small slip of ivy

Totally Optional Prompts offers: Choose one letter this week and examine it, smell it, listen to it, hold it in the palm of your brain and feel it. Then write a poem about it.

The digital image is a copper wire twisted to an ess and photographed on top of a CD in a window's light. Resized in Irfranview, framed in MS Digital Image Suite.

Poems for 3 Word Wednesday

ThomG, moderator of 3ww Wednesday offers the following three words for today's prompt:
Flirt, Ploy, Stunning

***

A cinquain:

a flirt
with naked ploy
to capture the brass ring
brought the emperor to his knees
stunning

***

A shadorma:

stunning ploy
took the world by storm
truthiness
and insight
a wordwise flirt spoke to all
sealed well-worn loopholes

L for ABC Wednesday

ABC Wednesday prompts the letter 'L' for this week. Thank you, MrsNesbitt!

Stumped for holiday gifts and with time running out, I was near panic. I do most of my searching/shopping online and when I found that this log splitter was available at a local home improvement store it seemed the perfect answer for a family gift.

This is no lightweight gadget as evidenced by the heavy breathing of the muscular customer service agent as he wedged it into the trunk of my car. Now what? It was too heavy for me to play with or to wrap.

I printed the above picture in 8x8 size, cut it into a jigsaw puzzle, put the little pieces in a small round can and wrapped the can in holiday paper.

It took a while for the family to complete the puzzle and figure out what it was and it took even longer for the family men to remove the thing from the car trunk.

It's been worth its weight in gold.

Lists for Heads or Tails

Skittles at Heads or Tails offers the following prompt:
TAILS - "List Three". List three things from any category. Your choice.

This is as REAL as I can write it, Barb, but it is written in lemon juice.

A list of three things I ♥ about winter.
1.
2.
3.

Because one can never have too many lists, here's another.

A list of three things I about spring.
1. winter is going
2. summer is coming
3. color riots

The begonia in the photo above was stunning. My younger daughter gave it to me a couple of years ago.
1. I took photos.
2. It died.
3. I'm sure there was no correlation between those two actions.

Celebrate with Sunday Scribblings

Sunday Scribblings asks: What have you got to celebrate?

I'm celebrating the first show of spring!

Not much more than a quart of snow remains in the yard, the sun is out, the thermometer marks fifty and the moss is green.

Because the temperature will drop below freezing tonight and there will be more snow, I may re-cork the champagne and focus on color, sunshine and wamth.

And, I'll also celebrate the third anniversary of this blog. What could be better than Spring and a blog birthday?
