A for ABC Wednesday

Abozzo is a preliminary sketch and Art is a varietal word for which  Wikipedia offers a wonderful definition. Like a fine wine, art has personal taste or undefined liking.

My preference in art relies on color with texture (readily seen in my watercolor banner) and avoids photographic style even though I love great photos, many of which are found here on ABC Wednesday.

This computer painting was produced in fairly short order last night using the Wacom Bamboo Fun tablet and Adobe Photoshop Elements. Different from that which I usually doodle, this one has a character I like so I can call it art. 

Finding it interesting to 'paint' on the computer, I also find it very difficult to do, albeit much cleaner with no brush washing and such which leaves more time for daydreaming.

ABC WEDNESDAY ROUND 7: F is for.....

Fibonacci
According to Wikipedia, the Fibonacci numbers are defined by a recurrence relation. After two beginning values, each following number is the total of the two preceding numbers. Poetically, six lines would use the following number of syllables: 1 1 2 3 5 8. Theoretically, one could increase the number of lines and syllables to infinity.

An exploding fad of using this mathematical formula to compose poetry caught my attention because I'm fond of haiku, senryu, fractals, all things brief and all things fun!

whispers
restless leaves                                                                 
prophesy the birth
of golden months that end in 'R'

ABC WEDNESDAY ROUND 6: H is for.......Hurray!

Haiku

Haiku works for me because I admire the ease with which each one shows a lot in few words. I do love short. While I don't claim to be a master (mistress) of haiku, I keep trying. There are several forms associated with this particular style which means there's something for everyone.

Originally consisting of 3 lines of 7/5/7 syllabic sound in the Japanese language, haiku has been occidentalized into 'few words'. Ordinarily, haiku expresses seasonal thoughts and senryu offers the opportunity to personalize the form with humor, satire or pun. Haiga is haiku accompanied by an image.

Following are two good sites with haiku how-to if you're interested in the form. There are many more as well as several journals and memes which accept submissions of haiku for publication.

R for ABC Wednesday

ABC WEDNESDAY ROUND 5: R is for......Respect!

I've always claimed Red as my favorite color. You know. RED.

When I began to watercolor, RED took on a number of names and shades. And more, until the list outgrew me. There were many Reds that I mistakenly called pinks and browns.

As always, Wikipedia provides an answer for everything Red  including a lengthy list of Reds along with matching color chips. Each of these sites is full of wonderful information.

Looking at this litany of Reds brought on an urge to color something. Anything. An urge to replace the gray of today with vivid, life-sustaining RED. So, I'm off to play with color on my Bamboo Fun Tablet which is similar to watercoloring without the mess.

Red, it is.
