Stitching for Magpie Tales

Magpie Tales Prompt 21 offers a weekly image prompt on Thursday with a response time that ends the following Tuesday morning. Willow has fascinating prompts - check it out!

Stitching

fat quarters, quilts and queries
fabric fused by tape
pinked by promise
survival stitched with silken threads
tapestry refreshed in double lines

mending holes and darning wholes
and still the raveling warps
she seams around the inside edges
to avoid tear-tracked endings
fat quarters and family's age old queries

Spring Haiku for Totally Optional Prompts

Totally Optional Prompts offers: The Spring equinox (N. Hemisphere) has just passed, so it's now officially spring in the US. I declared spring a number of weeks ago, though, when we had our first balmy day. How do you mark the change into spring, or into any other season? Do the equinoxes and solstices anchor your calendar, or do you go by the weather?

Mars at Large

Flaming forests red at dusk
Death Star, silent as feather steps
chases Luna from the sky
Sol burns the edge of summer

baked pears fall from trees
wither under raven whispers
Fate chants songs
without words

Mt Helicon hugs the muses
who stop between heavens
to rewrite, change nibs
speak of hemlock twigs.

Going Home Again

thrumming tires
asphalt hot
mark the miles
high beams spear
the double-dark of night

a country house
buttons up two knolls
panes of warmth
drag buried yearning
toward my throat

the Cleavers
suit and dress
children two point five
share a faultless dusk

like I’ve never known

morning’s breaking news
divulges to the dreamer
that private lights
aren’t what
they could have been

It's That Kind of Day

The dawn sneaks in
despite a wink of moon,
shadows of silence
gather early birdsong
before the wailing sirens cry.
I count on my fingers
several times around
to place each one I know.
Several are beyond my tally.
Fear sprays the shut of day
and still I listen for
that other shoe.

Fibonacci, Regional Poets and Prairie Poetry

Regional poets Dick Case, Juliene Munts, Zan Agzigian, Stuart Polzin and Tim Hunt will present a poetry program at 6:45 PM in the Post Falls Library on April 27. If you have an opportunity to attend, you'll be well rewarded. The Library will issue this as a Podcast as well.

Prairie Poetry is a fantastic source of readable poetry with the ability to stir one to the quick. Love it!

Headlines Parrot Night Tales

Ominous as storm clouds
coupling in the dark
shadows swoop
across the Wolf Moon face,

ravens fall from grace to ground
beat at window glass
rasp the wooden sill
rip shingled roof to shreds.

My Daddy always said
crowded creatures go mad
and humans likely will
as their numbers cross the bar.

Forests fill with people
clearing trees and game
life breeds Hitchcock scenes
mirrored in daily news.

Aerial Kabuki

Cedar saplings
precise as tinkers toys
stretch from root strings
toward denim-tinted sky.

Satellites skip cracks of time
track in and out ~
compound chaos of the stars ~
light the way for nacred moons.

The chamber of tomorrow
waits on a groove of air
where stairs like Escher's
carry all that disappears.
