Poem for RWP #107

ReadWritePoem Prompt #107  An image is offered for this prompt. You can see it at the site!

Ancient Runes

archaic symbols
line the tunnel of time
track the stunning trek

shadows flicker and
obscured by blinded eyes
truth hides in the open

men read and over-write
old runes upon the wall
while the end re-writes the light

X for ABC Wednesday

ABC WEDNESDAY ROUND 5: X

Xi (uppercase Ξ, lowercase ξ) is the 14th letter of the Greek alphabet.

Xi There are other meanings outlined on the linked Wikipedia page. I hadn't thought much about it until I began playing

You know that feeling? The search for something ~ anything ~ to use those last two tiles when you're already 30 points behind? I'm glad to learn this is more than just a two-letter word ~ it should be easier to remember but I'm beginning to wish I'd studied something besides Latin.

And that I played e-mail Scrabble with someone less talented than my oldest granddaughter who beats me soundly.

Two more valuables: xu and nu.

Poem for RWP #106

RWP #106
Prompt: Repetition is a useful tool. Perhaps one of the finest. Anyone who wishes to make a memorable point uses repetition, be they poet, scholar or person on the street. As poets, we repeat everything and anything: sounds, words, sentences, rhythms and/or ideas.

Space of Dark

a double dare of dark
drums down the days
in the space of a dime

dreams fall by the way
lack the sweet kiss of light
a double dare of dark

she leans toward spring
future swings on a string
in the double dare of dark

W for ABC Wednesday

ABC WEDNESDAY ROUND 5: W

W is for WISH

It’s more of a sculpture than a dwelling. Taking cues from a Nautilus shell, the house is put together using ferrocement construction, a technique involving a frame of steel-reinforced chicken wire with a special two-inch-thick composite of concrete spread over it, resulting in a structure that’s earthquake-proof and maintenance-free.

Read More Here There are photos of the interior and more information about the design itself. It feels like a dream to me! I can image the reflections inside, the comforting cocoon of space and I'll admit that the phrase 'maintenance-free' gets right to my heart. But what would you expect from a woman with a Roomba named Hey You?

I'm thinking there are only a few people who would wish for this. What do you think?

Poem for RWP #105

ReadWritePoem offers about seventeen words to use in this week's poem.

Neglect on a String

stealthy as the wind
radar beams of meteors
went out into the night

the dark of moon
pulled its precious shell
into a curl around its back

pierced by steadfast neglect
she hit a dying riff, moved
through time as frail as trees

sometime 'round the solstice
telephones rang mellow chimes
while the stars began to dim

Poem for 3WW

ThomG, moderator of 3WordWednesday offers these words as prompt: bleak, queer, hiccup.

Lens of the Past

neither light nor dark
no color at play
the queer time of mind
the bleak phase of day
a hiccup in life

reaching into the gray
she draws on familiar
a memory of old
to add light to
that bleak phase of day

The image is a digital photo of a glass ball created from Mt. St. Helen's ash. Photographed in slanted sunlight, manipulated in Digital Image Suite, resized and buttoned in Irfanview. Initially my camera and I were 'fisheye' reflected in the center section. A couple of quick swipes disappeared me but they aren't the swipes that appear most obvious.  :)

V for ABC Wednesday

ABC WEDNESDAY ROUND 5: V

V is for Robot

I have a vacuum.
His name is Hey, You!
Like an unsociable cat
he circles behind my back
gives me wide berth
sweeps up dusty corners
and wanders under the bed.
Sometimes, for fun
when he comes round
I move aside
to watch him clean.
'Good Job, Hey,You!' I say.
It's the least I can do!

The battery gave out on my red iRoomba vacuum a couple of weeks ago and I whined. My oldest granddaughter asked, 'How long have you had it?' 'Not very,' cried I.

But I checked. It's been over three years since I Amazon-ordered it. Smiling, I ordered a new battery so Hey,You can resume his chores. It'll be three more years before I whine again. And there'll be a few more months to come up with the next V.

Ain't love grand?

Poem for Sunday Scribblings

Sunday Scribblings offers prompt #193 - Brave

Mask of Night

a savage wind
whistling harmonics
cuts through the dark
knocks at the door

evergreen limbs
scratch the roof and
needles stab at panes
through midnight fears

spun from betrayals
whispers ride the wind
ricochet off the walls
she brews calming tea

Decorating by Drill

This YouTube presentation looks like more fun than hanging stockings! I haven't tried it but doubt I'll make it through the season without giving it a spin. On the other hand, I envision what could go wrong, so maybe this will go into my Spectator Crafts file.

In the past, I decorated clear Christmas bulbs by dribbling glass paint inside the bulb and rotating it until the colors interacted to make an abstract 'watercolor' painting. That's an easy project and produces original bulbs each time. No power involved there and very little risk to limbs.

Then again, using the camera to capture reflections indoors during the frigid temperature outside seems the least risky of all. See the newest one here on my Art Blog.

Poem for 3Word Wednesday

ThomG, moderator of 3Word Wednesday offers these words as prompt: lithe, offend, grave

The Daily Tempest

writhing limbs
uproot the senses
guide the lithe
toward smoky mirrors
magnetized by mimicry

where nonstop coverage
plays upon the clay
uproots the tallest
and offends the grave
by writhing limbs

U for ABC Wednesday

ABC WEDNESDAY ROUND 5: U

Ubiquitous. Useful word when the hamburger rises to lofty levels and is found on every street corner. I rarely eat hamburgers but this one, served at a summer outdoor gathering, was hardly ubiquitous.

Because the unfriendly temperature here is near zero, I'll probably not spend unlimited time outdoors taking fresh photographs.

Nearing the Z of the second round I've played on ABC Wednesday, I think it's undeniably harder to find unused ideas. How about you?

Weird for Sunday Scribblings

Sunday Scribblings prompts with weird

This is a tough prompt, since I can hardly think of anything that isn't weird, but by fluke and circumstance (and maybe a bit of strange thrown in) this is a scene I saw today on my living room coffee table.

A DVD, just completed, was upside down, the sun came through the window at the right angle and shadowed a cactus-type plant. The photo is just as it emerged from my point-and-shoot camera.

This isn't as weird as it gets around here but, for today, this is enough! Hope you enjoy this serendipitous image as much as I do!

Poem for RWP #103

ReadWritePoem  get your poem on #103

The Pomegranate

crimson drops of blood
pods like jelly in a jar
color of the first chakra
sweet perfume of summer

silky bits wait inside
the rind of tough hide
until she yearns to feed
her pining soul in times

of winter's cold and white
and with a tiny seed pod
she re-creates the heat
of summer in a jelly jar

T for ABC Wednesday

ABC WEDNESDAY ROUND 5: T is for......

Contact!
Tiny toes tense
before the toddler
begins to twirl, twirl
twirl 'til she dizzies,
tumbles to the floor
and shrieks with glee.
