Slow Motion Wreck RWP #120

Get Your Poem On  The current prompt is an image which can be seen at the site.

Slow Motion Wreck

a crop of crows
reaps eyes from the dawn
with their stiff-legged pluck

the gray of God's acre
binds a wagon brimmed
with overripe redemption

harvest is darkly lacking
saddened by the wildings
of a rabid farm-fed fringe

a blind crop of crows
goes pecking pecking pecking
around the slow motion wreck

Dark Fans for RWP #118

The prompt is a wild assortment of words to be molded into a poem or so. The words are: fumble, strumpet,  furtive, nonpareil, costume, mirror, mist, turquoise, cup, motor-coach, fern, magenta

Dark Fans

the not-so-frumpy strumpet
furtively adjusted her costume
fumbled with beads and magenta silk

sidelong glances
in the motor-coach window-mirror
caught her pinky crooked

rimming a porcelain turquoise cup
brimmed with nonpareil concoction
an amorous potion brewed from

misted ferns that grew like dark fans
bordering the edgy pathways
along the streets of Jack the Ripper

the doorway gaped wide
she flung forth a sparkling smile
fine justice for that tawdry night

When it Comes for RWP #117

ReadWritePoem Prompt #117  - - write a poem in two parts and then later combine those parts at its volta.

When it Comes

a cane hooked the rocker arm
peanuts in the shell
refused to yield
I cracked them for you
when the failing came

from brown shoots
thickets of remorse
entwine with guilt
regret doesn't pause

twelve hundred miles distant
a funeral called to you
someone you once knew
I claimed busyness when
you couldn't go alone

Countdown for RWP #116

RWP Get your Poem on #116  An image prompt which can be seen at the RWP link.

Countdown

once beyond
the twelfth chime
on the threshhold of myth
the double gates release
insignificant others
from each of her decades
a motley horde who parade
in single file
toward the hazy light
the glow dims and fades
scribes a runic sentence
on the doorsill of myth
while the chiming clock
strikes thirteen

Silent Water for RWP #115

RWP #115  Prompt - Belief by the list.

Silent Water

near the limbo of belief
my clockwork brain
treads silent water

while trust ebbs and flows
pebbles line my pockets
like limpets in a shell

lies and truth crack down
upon the fractured rocks
turmoil smacks upon the reef

hangs me out to wither
along the ancient seams
of a beggar's quasi dream

my clockwork brain
treads silent water
in the limbo of belief

Slush Pile for RWP #114

Read Write Poem challenge is to write a poem using those words: lubricious, fiction, frosted, eggshells,  frog,  patter, hacksaw, footlocker, red, mutter, panic, decay, nails, crown. I might have missed a couple or some. :-)

Slush Pile

a double take of green
comes hopping, hopping
down the blooming path

red one-gallon crowns
hacksawed from other frogs
clatter loosely at each leap

these praying princes patter
over freshly frosted eggshells
and in one footlocker croak

beg the queen's own agent
to nail down a healthy deal
and pub their lubricious fiction

she fakes a grin, rolls her eyes
and mutters via common natter
nobody'd buy your kissing tale

Poem for RWP #113

The RWP #113 challenge is to get out of your poem rut with a run through a spring spa - follow a series of steps and end up with a poem not like the one you usually write. Follow the link to see what others wrote.

One Spoon

raspberry jam tops an English muffin half
bleeds into the honeycombed face
a tasty mound of crimson, wrapping old seeds,
waters my mouth as if in practice for
a harvest garden while winter rides roughshod
removing all color from my world until
all I find is a single spot of scarlet as the outer white
grows taller, stronger and more frigid and
in that world where cold has died,
red still seeps into the sand one drop at a time

Galena Whispers for RWP 112

Get Your Poem on #112

Dave Jarecki prompts: This week, I encourage you to find the “narrative wallpaper” that resides in your home, apartment, memory, etc.

Galena Whispers

wallpaper was a stranger
calcimine took its stead
staged an army surplus bunkbed

where webs of wires
from a crystal radio
pulled shadows from a rock

nightly sibilance from earphones
scared us into giggles
forever destined to hide fear

for who could foresee that safety
was only a figment of the mind
needled from a chunk of galena

Poem for RWP 111

Follow the link to RWP to see the prompt image and what others have written.

Untamed

the sky
flings color to the four winds
delays the black and white

heavy lifting
the burden of soothing the feral
brings him to his knees

he pauses
for answers not expected
although the sun might rise again

fling color to the four winds
and convert the black and white
to one more song of doubt

Transliteration for RWP 110

RWP  Get Your Poem On 110

Transliteration is the process of selecting a text in a language you don’t know and then doing a faux translation of the work based on what you think the words mean. The key is not knowing the language you are translating from so that your faux translation won’t be sullied by knowing what the words actually mean.

I chose Homesick for the Dark by Robert Anker, The Netherlands poet, from Poetry International Web

Rising Yen

in the wildest of times
he spoke of the dark and
the doom nibbling at his marrow

near the forests and brooks,
he spoke of joining rivulets to brook,
brooks to river, rivers to the sea

in the calmest of times
he spoke of light, the crags
and sea, the endless glide of tides

and in all those times, he knew
a growing kinship with the dark
and a heady ache for friendly death

Whispers for RWP

RWP #109

Whispers

add two great planets and
subtract the smallest moon
beware cenotes
where blind fish groove

quills of Nostradamus
ink a froth of quats
old ciphers, dated runes
the elite presume to sunder

beware the fertile mass
unconfined on Venus
pebbles in her pockets
smoke across her face

the calendar picks up pace
galactic center
circles too close to the wind
and tick-tock sings the corner

The prompt words:
brunt, drawing, fertile, enthusiast, elite, froth, Hercules, sundered, question, shouldered, thigh, simple, stones

Damask and Lemon Drops ~ RWP #108

Damask and Lemon Drops

a motif, lethal as milky disease,
etched shriveled lemon drops
on the ivory tablecloth

hysterics land as if on helideck
flittering with wild soap-opera glee
doubles play and crack

as amoeba for the day
proclaiming innocence of all wrong
they spread blame redolent as seed

tasteless lemon drops, duly scribed
upon the ivory damask cloth, see
one more hand-me-down performance

motif, milky disease, lemon drop, ivory, hysterics, helideck, flitter, doubles were the words culled from the dictionary according to the prompt directions    Visit the RWP site for the challenge and others' poetry!

Poem for RWP #107

ReadWritePoem Prompt #107  An image is offered for this prompt. You can see it at the site!

Ancient Runes

archaic symbols
line the tunnel of time
track the stunning trek

shadows flicker and
obscured by blinded eyes
truth hides in the open

men read and over-write
old runes upon the wall
while the end re-writes the light

Poem for RWP #106

RWP #106
Prompt: Repetition is a useful tool. Perhaps one of the finest. Anyone who wishes to make a memorable point uses repetition, be they poet, scholar or person on the street. As poets, we repeat everything and anything: sounds, words, sentences, rhythms and/or ideas.

Space of Dark

a double dare of dark
drums down the days
in the space of a dime

dreams fall by the way
lack the sweet kiss of light
a double dare of dark

she leans toward spring
future swings on a string
in the double dare of dark

Poem for RWP #105

ReadWritePoem offers about seventeen words to use in this week's poem.

Neglect on a String

stealthy as the wind
radar beams of meteors
went out into the night

the dark of moon
pulled its precious shell
into a curl around its back

pierced by steadfast neglect
she hit a dying riff, moved
through time as frail as trees

sometime 'round the solstice
telephones rang mellow chimes
while the stars began to dim

Poem for RWP #103

The Pomegranate

crimson drops of blood
pods like jelly in a jar
color of the first chakra
sweet perfume of summer

silky bits wait inside
the rind of tough hide
until she yearns to feed
her pining soul in times

of winter's cold and white
and with a tiny seed pod
she re-creates the heat
of summer in a jelly jar

Read Write Poem #97

In keeping with the RWP #97 Prompt, this is an older cut up

she

pale as sandpiper prints
in a wrinkle of infinity
she flies at that easy hour
catches the potbellied moon
rides past a crescent of sand
seaweed laced
with driftwood beads
a blink of stars, a tiny smile
she slides out through the sky
on wings of sparrow sighs

For Read Write Poem #94

NADIR OF A SUMMIT

crisp suits and power ties
silken saris on pampered bodies
turn backs upon their own
for whom the axe now tolls

cleansed by camera’s eye
much as night hides the lie
they congregate in lands
where death is served as daily fare

those who'll never know
a stomach’s growl
and those who looked away
to birth a plague

silken suits and power saris
give swag to tarnished hands
indisposed to heal those
for whom the axe now tolls

For Read Write Poem #93

Singing Toward Jupiter

winging off to Ganymede
she sings of her Utopia
escape, oh, sweet escape

moon of milk and honeybee
where oceans' ebb and flow
smoothes the homeland buzz

she claims an unspoiled crater
hoists a purple and green flag
to catch Jupiter's free-handed glow

escape, oh, sweet escape
singing lullabies of Utopia
she flew away to Ganymede
