Cabin Fever for Big Tent Poetry

Big Tent Poetry prompts for a poem about being stuck.

Cabin Fever

on the other side
of yesterday
movement sticks

untenable future
unbendable past
a wishy-washy now

the cusp of today rotates
like a dejected pup
re-winds in multi-haze

re-runs and re-casts
the same weak scenes
that time once stopped

she leans into wabi sabi
relieves the pressure
still, movement sticks

Foot Fairy for Big Tent Poetry

Big Tent Poetry offers this prompt:  write a poem about feet

Foot Fairy

dark blocks brake the flux
stifle energy and healing ~

white tendrils of clearing smoke
rise from burning sage

strong fingers massage
ease the dull meridians

healer's reflexology
kneading brings free flow

currents of clear light
stream unchecked beneath my skin

I float on the hands of time
tight spots left behind

A sketch.

Tune for Heads or Tails

Skittles at Heads or Tails offers Tune as the prompt.

I've never found a bucket that could carry my tune.

Strangely enough, my brother is an extremely talented song writer, guitarist who has created any number of wonderful musical CD's. He intersperses gigs in Arizona and Idaho with an annual Nashville show up. Do I feel envy?

Well. Not this week, I'm at the tail end of a cold/flu that's left me too tired to lift a bucket, let alone one full of tunes.

Janus for ABC Wednesday

ABC Wednesday prompts with the letter J. Thank you Mrs. Nesbitt!

The calendar called spring and winter answered. It's only a matter of time...

What Janus Sees

Pocked by nimble hooves
five o’clock stubble clings,
stubborn in wind-chilled sun.
One six-pack of scrub jays
scatters the silence,
tepid spring forces its way
upon the barren brow
defined by seasoned gray.

Midnight Shift

sounds of lonesome
underscored by
menacing tones
intermittent songs
to the rising moon
he heard the howls
his neck hair rose,
quivered in the dark
the old guard whistled

Heads Or Tails Poem

Heads Or Tails! April 29 TAILS Prompt: Share a special memory

After the Saffron Flowers

Drawn toward the land
of wind-polished stone
arroyos breeding rabbit brush
Joshua trees that curl
where hawks knife endless sky
and death is dry and clean.
I place my palm
on alabaster marble,
Buddha belly of
the newborn boy,
watch the desert
brown and cracked
crawl across my hand.

Sand and Silence

Writers Island prompts: On what journey does “Lost Highway” send your imagination? Please share with us where this prompt leads you! Read what others have written and feel free to join in!

roadrunners, rodents
and high hopping hares
silent as the purple dawn
track over and back

cartographers
cruise the desert
fail to chart the spore
marking the mesa's foot

six miles from nowhere
disregarded, unseen
the path clung there
all along

Perseids, ISS and ice cream

Midmorning approached as we converged on the family campsite from several different locations - by several different conveyances.

Before the sky colored from dusk to indigo, an ice cream maker emerged from a large box and a multitude of coolers were soon depleted of their largesse - milk, cream, flavorings, ice, ice and more ice as well as a container of rock salt.

The night ceiling was scratched with star sketched lines. Several filmy clouds parted to reveal the International Space Station, with newly-docked Endeavor, crossing the distant stage.

While overhead magic, far from city lights, exhibited the great August show, we consumed freshly churned ice cream atop fruit cobbler!

I could live my entire life in August!
