I've Never Gone There - Poem and Photo

I've Never Gone There

It isn't like she'd know.
She isn't there
of that I'm sure.

Iris, her favorite flower,
often colors the spot
where an icon stands erect

unlike her ashes beneath
the shelter of tall yellow pines.
I plead absence when asked.

Eventually,
glued by guilt,
I will go there.

I will be too late.
