Y for ABC Wednesday

ABC WEDNESDAY ROUND 6: Y is for Yarn and Yak

And YOGA

Seeing photos of gurus balanced on one finger, abs in full blown lusciousness and a look of total bliss masking the face, I knew yoga wasn't for me.

But when encouraged by a friend to enroll in an easy yoga class some time back, I found it very enjoyable and continue to practice. Nothing strenuous, you understand, but a few of the easier stretches, bends and poses which increase my stamina and flexibility.

I've avoided that feared one-finger stand. And I try not to be upset during Down Dog pose when my eyes flap shut from the bottom up and I lose sight of my potential abs.

This is the DVD I use for a full routine. I don't have a Wii but it's on my wish list. I've tried its yoga program and love it.

Do you use Yoga for meditation or flexibility?

I'm impressed by all who take up yoga. I probably ought to do it myself, but...

I was going to write something similar to what Rune wrote. Flexibility is good but I just can't see me doing it. Great choice for the letter Y.

I think yoga is great, but I've had better luck for me with Tai Chi. Interesting post for the day! Hope you have a lovely week! Enjoy!

In my busy family days I did yoga faithfully, and meditated too. Not supple enough these days to do anything but the simplest, but I still meditate.

Both, actually.
Starting each day with gentle stretches is something I can't do without these days. It makes all the difference in living with arthritis. I started meditating 30 years ago with TM, and quickly moved in this direction.

Yes to both. I am so glad I finally got it added to my routine! I've been doing yoga for six years now!

Have never tried yoga although I have considered it a few times. One day perhaps ...

I'd pick yoga over aerobics any day of the week! It's something I keep saying I'm going to do, but haven't made the time yet. :-(

I did yoga for many, many years, it's wonderful for relaxation and for fitness. Youve reminded me again why I enjoyed it so much. These days Im doing Callanetics which is an old exercise regime that seems to be making a comeback. It is similar to yoga in some ways. And LOTS of walking, I never get tired of walking.

Hope you are having a wonderful summer Sue, G

I think I need to try it. Or something. I need to try some form of physical activity for sure!

Yoga is also a good way to strengthen the back. Just take it in baby steps, slow and easy at first.

I don't use yoga, but I meditate. I've often thought of combining the two, time is hard to come by.... the wii is a good idea. Thanks for sharing.

There was a time I did some yoga and I joined an English yoga class just for one night. I also went once with my daughter to a yoga class in Australia. But I am not really enthusiastic about any sport, so yoga is not my favourite pastime, I am afraid!

I taught yoga for years. I don't quite understand why I see so many folks who're fearful or dislike downward dog. I love having all my innards upside down!

I've only tried yoga a couple of times. Butlately I have been reading about the benefits and I am seriously looking into some classes.
Great post for the week

Well done! Yoga is on my 'to do' list where it's been for the last many years ;-/

I use a DVD to practise basic yoga. But it is better to follow a teacher.
