Point-illism for Heads or Tails

Small dots, or points, of color are the basis for this type painting. The late 1800's saw the emergence of pointillism and it is still produced by very dedicated painters.

Too difficult for me, I instead chose my Bamboo Fun Tablet to paint these geraniums behind a fence and in front of a plaster wall for the basic image and follow it up with a filter applied in Adobe Photoshop Elements.

That's the easiest way to produce a painting of this overly-detailed style. A friend of mine, years ago, actually painted a pointillism scene. It took about half of her life to complete. Sadly, she didn't like it after she'd finished.

Thanks, Skittles, for the prompt of 'point' on Heads or Tails Meme. Hope you had a fun vacation and are in fine fettle for the coming spring.

I'd like to take this chance to wish
Rick a very Happy Birthday!

And Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Never heard of that type of painting before. Now that takes dedication - or maybe something else :-)

....I'll add my wishes for Rick too then. Happy Birthday.

And the idea of pointillism art is just too perfect for the subject, Tumblewords!!! And I do love your finished art. It's beautiful.

I clicked the picture to see if it would enlarge so I could see more detail. It didn't work... but it's beautiful!

This art is so cool. I have one of my children who loves to do this. It seems to me as it would take alot of concentration

Thanks for the lesson! I need more art in my house. My walls are pretty bare...
Happy Tuesday! :)

Wow, that would be painstaking work. I can't even imagine doing something like that. Think of all the books you could be reading instead! :)
It did cause me to wonder if it's where they got the idea of using photos as the individual elements in a larger picture?

Great use of the word point!

I have 2 different filters that offer this effect (one only works in PSP, other in PSP & Photoshop), and it is the only way I would ever consider doing something like that. Very pretty work of art.

I love it! It's such a happy piece ... makes me think of mint juleps on the veranda ... I remember attempting a type of pointillism in one of my biology courses in college (sketching something we dissected) ... I gave up about half way through - and it was only about 2 inches long ... my hat's off to you!

Thanks for stopping by my HOTs... your post reminds me of my youth... I used to do pointillism in high school/college years - in black/white only. Too bad it wasn't ever good enough to display or sell.
