This is a scene I see almost daily along our river and your words have described it perfectly. Osprey!

I saw this happen once while eating at a restaurant across from a salt marsh. Very startling! You matched your myth well.

Thank you for this.
Made me think of the hawk who frequents our neighborhood. I have named him "Kamikaze" for his reckless abandon and surrender to the dive. (and I fear for my dog).
