Taste of Warm

My post for Passion, prompted by Sunday Scribblings.

I ache to swallow summer
without paring or pitting
hold it inside warm and rich
while winter
slings shards of ice
frigid wind rises in the night
moans through canyons
like the cry of a loon
vibrating mountain-tall pines
with threat
wild enough to crack my bones,
when grey eats the sun and moon
clothing knots my easy walk
I want to swallow summer whole.

I ache for it too. Every morning I wake up to the cold and I 'ache' for summer! ;~)

Wow, you involve all of the nature's elements there, very nice.
Sometimes I feel thristy for life, you feel hungry, that's fair. :)

A myriad of associations...cool fruit swallowed, representing summer, the warmth and richness of that memory warming our entire being...stark against winter wracking the environment without and within... I especially enjoyed the imagery of grey pervading, clothing knotting...wanting to shake it off, be done with it, swallow summer whole! Maybe it’s because I’m in the northeast right now, but I could really feel this one. Verrry nice. :-)

Or be swallowed whole by summer? 3-5 inches of snow here tonight.
Lovely poem.

Reminds me of Puerto rico and Florida.

I'd never go back, though, I would have before.

I like it very much--the winter wind moaning through the canyon like a loon is powerful!

Btw, I spent 2 summers living in a canyon in Idaho.

I have often said that I love four seasons as long as they are all summer. Beautiful poem.

Excellent poem- one of my favorite reads - the writing is rich, wise, concise and poignant. I could feel the juice of the summer fruit dripi down my chin. thank you for this writing!
