Poem for RWP 111

Follow the link to RWP to see the prompt image and what others have written.

Untamed

the sky
flings color to the four winds
delays the black and white

heavy lifting
the burden of soothing the feral
brings him to his knees

he pauses
for answers not expected
although the sun might rise again

fling color to the four winds
and convert the black and white
to one more song of doubt

NaiSaiKu for 3WordWednesday

ThomG, moderator of 3Word Wednesday, offers the following words for prompt: beacon, grieve, kindred

one shining beacon
unity in kindred peace
the vision-less grieve
they divide by rant and rave
the vision-less grieve
reject the kindred peace
our beacon shining

B for ABC Wednesday

B is for Blue, Blue and more Blue

Blue. A bleaching method. A feeling. A color.

I remember Grandma pouring dark blue liquid from a tiny bottle into the laundry rinse to remove the dinginess from white clothing.

When daylight is short and dark, do you feel blue? I do.

I remember my first box of eight crayons which contained one generic blue.

Recently I purchased a telescoping tower of 150 (can you believe that?) Crayola crayons to replace a cheap Brand X set of 12. I'm not sure I can select all the blues from this tower, but some are shown. These blues make shading delicious and choice difficult.

Here are some web blues. and the ubiquitous Wikipedia Blue

Transliteration for RWP 110

RWP  Get Your Poem On 110

Transliteration is the process of selecting a text in a language you don’t know and then doing a faux translation of the work based on what you think the words mean. The key is not knowing the language you are translating from so that your faux translation won’t be sullied by knowing what the words actually mean.

I chose Homesick for the Dark by Robert Anker, The Netherlands poet, from Poetry International Web

Rising Yen

in the wildest of times
he spoke of the dark and
the doom nibbling at his marrow

near the forests and brooks,
he spoke of joining rivulets to brook,
brooks to river, rivers to the sea

in the calmest of times
he spoke of light, the crags
and sea, the endless glide of tides

and in all those times, he knew
a growing kinship with the dark
and a heady ache for friendly death

Naisaiku for 3Word Wednesday

ThomG, moderator of 3 Word Wednesday offers these words as prompt:  Ideal, Measure, Teeter

teetering ideals
measure the angst of the day
memory is small
the past decade fades away
memory is small
angst measures another day
ideals a-teeter

A for ABC Wednesday

ABC Wednesday offers A for this prompt.

A is for Ashleigh Brilliant.

Wikipedia: Ashleigh Ellwood Brilliant (born 9th December 1933 in London, UK) is an author and syndicated cartoonist living in Santa Barbara, California, USA. He is best known for his Pot-Shots, single-panel illustrations with one-line humorous remarks, which began syndication in the United States of America in 1975.  The Wall Street Journal described him in a 1992 profile as "history's only full time, professional published epigrammatist."

I think this man is Awesome. When his Pot-Shots were printed in the local daily rag I invariably read his 17-word daily bon mot with superbly crafted drawings before checking the headlines. Clever man.

Oftentimes, I clipped his posts from the newspaper and taped them to the kitchen window trim so I could re-read them during the week.

Now, I subscribe to his daily post and with a single click I can read, laugh and admire while saving a lot of tape and window trim repainting. Oh, yes. I have most of his books on hand to read on those days when I think the world has lost its sense and its humor.

Please follow the link to see his work. You'll be glad you did!

Whispers for RWP

RWP #109

Whispers

add two great planets and
subtract the smallest moon
beware cenotes
where blind fish groove

quills of Nostradamus
ink a froth of quats
old ciphers, dated runes
the elite presume to sunder

beware the fertile mass
unconfined on Venus
pebbles in her pockets
smoke across her face

the calendar picks up pace
galactic center
circles too close to the wind
and tick-tock sings the corner

The prompt words:
brunt, drawing, fertile, enthusiast, elite, froth, Hercules, sundered, question, shouldered, thigh, simple, stones

Z for ABC Wednesday

ABC WEDNESDAY ROUND 5: Z!

zesty stripes aglow
one zany zebra
zig-zags through the trees
with zeal for eye-to-eye

Zebra Redux

This zany zebra fractal was created using Fractal Explorer software. It's been printed on greeting cards, business cards and as small wall art. Personable? Sketchy? Weird? Fractals are somewhat like searching for objects in clouds.

Zebra redux, not because there aren't other z words, but because I ♥ this zebra.

And, sometimes, you have to hang with ♥.

Damask and Lemon Drops ~ RWP #108

Damask and Lemon Drops

a motif, lethal as milky disease,
etched shriveled lemon drops
on the ivory tablecloth

hysterics land as if on helideck
flittering with wild soap-opera glee
doubles play and crack

as amoeba for the day
proclaiming innocence of all wrong
they spread blame redolent as seed

tasteless lemon drops, duly scribed
upon the ivory damask cloth, see
one more hand-me-down performance

motif, milky disease, lemon drop, ivory, hysterics, helideck, flitter, doubles were the words culled from the dictionary according to the prompt directions    Visit the RWP site for the challenge and others' poetry!

Y for ABC Wednesday

ABC WEDNESDAY ROUND 5: Y

Y is for Yurt and Yearn

See a gallery of yurts here! See Wikipedia's yurt information  here.

Something must be blowing through my head, rattling bones and whistling yesterday's tunes.

For the last ten years, I've yearned to devote myself to off-the-grid living, simplifying and downsizing. Shuffling stuff from corner to corner doesn't seem to cut it.

What if I had to get rid of things I don't plan to use the rest of my life? What if I moved into a yurt? Or a cozy one room edifice where things I needed were within reach, the light was natural (mostly) and the electric bill forgot to show up? What if??

Once, with a little software app, I designed a perfect home. When I dreamed my way through the finished plan I noticed there was no sink from which to draw water for coffee, tea or soup. I should take courses in design or technical illusions.

Maybe if I would quit wishing (see the snail house W for ABC Wednesday) I could actually accomplish something. But maybe not.

May 2010 help you realize your deepest Yearns!

Leaf for Sunday Scribblings

Sunday Scribblings  posts the prompt: Leaf

Ah, I wasn't ready.

I still have old leaves to turn and pages to burn. Life races like a high-speed train through an underground tunnel while I stumble and kick, mutter and grumble.

And, recheck this weary old resolution which makes me wonder which came first - which new avatar for me?

Resolution Re-run

New years by the score have left me in doubt
as what more to leave out. I gave up hard spirits,
tobacco and speeding, soaped out my mouth
and even stopped fibbing. I once gave up slouching
and dating bad men, ran from intolerance to pose on the fence.
I’m not pure lily white but surely modest and mild.
I’ve come full circle, which is rather odd, so this year I resolve
to resume smokes and gin, to step up my pace,
and regain ten pounds while practicing road rage
and lewd finger waves.

A Pleasurable, Prosperous and Peaceful 2010 to You and Yours!

The image is a digital photo of a leave, rendered in negative using Irfanview.
