Damask and Lemon Drops ~ RWP #108
Damask and Lemon Drops
a motif, lethal as milky disease,
etched shriveled lemon drops
on the ivory tablecloth
hysterics land as if on helideck
flittering with wild soap-opera glee
doubles play and crack
as amoeba for the day
proclaiming innocence of all wrong
they spread blame redolent as seed
tasteless lemon drops, duly scribed
upon the ivory damask cloth, see
one more hand-me-down performance
motif, milky disease, lemon drop, ivory, hysterics, helideck, flitter, doubles were the words culled from the dictionary according to the prompt directions Visit the RWP site for the challenge and others' poetry!

Poem for RWP #103
crimson drops of blood
pods like jelly in a jar
color of the first chakra
sweet perfume of summer
silky bits wait inside
the rind of tough hide
until she yearns to feed
her pining soul in times
of winter's cold and white
and with a tiny seed pod
she re-creates the heat
of summer in a jelly jar

Midnight for Totally Optional Prompt
Totally Optional Prompt: Midnight. What might happen at midnight? Besides the date changing, a new day starting, a deal with the devil, the witching hour, a half-moon rising, clocks chiming?
Midnight
midnight passed
with air black and still
lightning roared to life
rode thunder to the earth
shuddering trees shook free
their limbs and leaves
exposed the underside of rot
the sun bent dark to light
and looked upon the world
that midnight lobbed and left

Cycliku for 3Word Wednesday

double-down darkness
patronizes tight lipped moon
weakens harbor tide
saltwater hatchlings scratch sand
harbor tide weakens
patronizing tight lipped moon
double-down darkness
NaisaiKu and CYCLIKU! are informative links for this particular poetry form but I use poetic license and alter the rules to suit me and, hopefully, you!
My poetry books North of Summer and South of Winter are currently available at Amazon and, as always, available from my LuluBookstore in print or as download.

Poem for Carry On Tuesday
Carry on Tuesday posts: Our prompt this week is a quotation from John Lennon: Love is the flower you've got to let grow.
Love is the Flower

tall and gangly
tattered at the crest
promising nothing
it sticks around
stays in place
a wild stalk
stalwart and true
proud as the rose
blossoms thrust forth
a summer surprise
love is the flower
you've got to let grow
Image is a watercolor/pen and ink bookmark.

Poems for 3 Word Wednesday

ThomG, moderator of 3ww Wednesday offers the following three words for today's prompt:
Flirt, Ploy, Stunning
***
A cinquain:
a flirt
with naked ploy
to capture the brass ring
brought the emperor to his knees
stunning
***
A shadorma:
stunning ploy
took the world by storm
truthiness
and insight
a wordwise flirt spoke to all
sealed well-worn loopholes
***

Thanks for the prompt ThomG. These forms are short enough to try without taking out too many cells. :)

Surya Namaskara ~ Sun Salutation

the essor at first light
flings diamonds on the sea
sparkles lines on salty wood
standing on the shore
bare feet aglound in sand
she commences sun salutation
deep in contemplation
fails to see dazzling gems
posed by essor at first light
Totally Optional Prompts suggests coining a word or two and inserting in a poem.

Tacoma Bridge of Light
as dawn scumbles the night
universal colors rise
worked by heat, blown by pipe
Chihuly's artistry of bold
a thousand dyes blend
waxy strands of primaries
hug rounds of gossamer glass
Chihuly's artistry of bold
a thousand scrambled facets
low empty bowls upended
akin to jellyfish suspended
Chihuly's artistry of bold
like Bellagio's decor
kaleidoscopes of gold
cast glitter on the floor
Chihuly's artistry of bold

Glass has fascinated me for eons, or maybe a little less than that. Dale Chihuly is one of my favorite artisans - it amazes me to watch glassblowers work from his rapidly sketched charcoal lines to create a diaphonous and exquisitely colored object. Follow the link if you'd like to see art of Chihuly.
Totally Optional Prompt: And what is a kyrielle? Briefly, a poem made up of four-line stanzas (any number of such stanzas) where the last line of each stanza is the same. Suggestion: write a free-verse kyrielle that retains the four-line stanza structure and the repetition.

Flock of Meteorites
Michelle, at Poefusion Friday 5, offers these words for prompt.
pheromones
earmarked
sedulous
apiculate
blisters
And, once again, my dictionary was a necessary reference. I can't wait to read what the others wrote - you, too, can check them out (or play) by following the link.
**
meteorites of birds
release white shadows
ahead of the sinking sun
earmarked as summer's
sedulous clean-up flock
these flashing birds ferret
bugs and bees drying
like amber tinted blisters
on the wooden deck
apiculate beaks emit
pheromones to keep
their cluster in complicity
when, after a feeding frenzy
of fermented grapes, they
whirl to undress my pear tree

TOP German Shepherds
Totally Optional Prompt posts: It hasn't been a 'three dog night' around here for a long time, like since the last ice age, none the less the prompt this week is 'Three Dogs'. The challenge is to write three short poems about dogs, or the animal of your choice. They can be about three dogs, or three aspects of one dog, or the animal of your choice.
I don't have animals so these briefs are about peripherals. :) Wasn't easy for me!
German Shepherds
saber rattles
at interlopers
shares nap time
with cuddly toys
growls large at cat
sees soaring hawk shadow
ducks under deck
collared leash restraint
no diving into pristine
inground people's pool

Sunday Scribblings Poem
Moved by Wings of Wright
shuttling between good
and somebody's bad
carried by wings that rumble
from sameness and back
where mobius mirrors
false prophets of forever
into a galaxy exploding
over one land imploding
while lights and flames
merge like movie trailers
I'm carried between old stars
and new pinlights of earth

Orion's Mural
banks of clouds
loosen their hold on
spring's murky sky
Flame Nebula tracks
the elliptical of Orion
drawing transient murals
and stellar hieroglyphs
like cyclic history
sketched on rock walls
overhead, chaos of earth
is expressed by string art
in lines of harmony

Joker's Game
Totally Optional Prompts offers 'smoke and mirrors' as the Thursday prompt. A great meme, please feel free to join in...
**
come play with me
curled finger beckoned
disappeared into the haze
ticket vanished
I sped into the game
seeking, searching
slipped, fell, rose again
door banged shut
the mirror went black
magicians' rule ~
now you have it
no, you don’t
against the wall
head to brick
without a chance
the die was cast
a winner named
before I joined the game

From the Dark
By the time I learned the difference between martial and marital, there was none.
And an uncategorized poem:
From the Dark
when good things go
on arms of cold wind
sandbars hold old slivers
driftwood on the ebb
smoke falls downhill
greets the fog's new rising
nuzzles gray clustered rubble
astride the urn of terror
dawn drives the dark away
three-quarters of a walk
from the land of Incas
where good things went

Carnival
mystic and masked
seraphs trace the tips of
voodoo needles
tease the smoke of soul
scatters of crystal beads
reward the jaded
who flee distant realms
for a taste of je ne sais quoi
Fat Tuesday
jives along the Quarter
sings out to drying bones
graved in roadside attics
