Daylight backing away is a wonderful image. I read this and hear the drips of the melting ice, and I swear I hear the hardening of the icicle in the first place.
Wonderful... I almost wrote about the same thing, and then instead my brain jumped to whiskey so I went down a different path, but I loved how you put that together!
Water indurated as ice ... very cool fractal!

The UK is in the grip of its worst winter for 30 years. I'm certainly with you on this at the moment.
