brittle frost broke the fever
fetched by heated sheaths
of summer borne dog days
crusty rustles from the north
trapped the charming willows
without an upfront warning
the unbearable piercing breeze
exploded and could not mend
those shattered hearts of autumn

love it.
I could have sworn I had read this and commented, Susan. Anyhow, I love that last stanza, it is quite pretty Your poems are always so concise and tightly written. Nice work.

Autumn is so fleeting and your final verse finds an echo within me. Thanks for visiting my site. I'm a bit slow in getting back to everyone this week. My apologies,
Elizabeth
