George Orwell's 1984 was the last
book I read about a dystopian world which is loosely defined by Wikipedia as a form of
utopia but with drawbacks.
Hunger Games is now drawing many readers and there appears to be a resurgence of interest in Dystopia. I
succumbed to it by downloading Clint Stoker's The Cause to read on the Kindle
Fire. I haven't turned the first page but I'm anxious to get started.

Aldous Huxley's "Brave New World", "V for Vendata" (can't remember the author) and Ray Bradbury's "Farenheit 451" are others that come to mind that I've read. I really liked Farenheit 451 IF you haven't read it. Great post.
Its been many years since I read 1984. Maybe I should get it out again.
I know everyone is talking about Hunger Games but I haven't read that either. I guess I have to renew my interest in Dystopia.
Well, 1984, as a year, might have been dysfunctional, but it wasn't utopia.
Dystopia, however, is a great D word. Interesting choice indeed.

1984 is one of those books once read never forgotten. Apparently "We" by Zamyatin is the other one to read; its been on my ever expanding must read list for years. Maybe one day.
I'll vote for Ray Bradbury, too. But then I share a past as a science fiction writer - way back in the 50s. My first nationally published story was in Galaxy back in 1951!
Life seems so bleak sometimes; reading books like those - and I did in college - just depress me.

I don't seem to read much anymore. Funny as I used to read a lot. I slowed down because I tend not to stop and my eyes get too tired. But, dystopia does not sound like a desirable place to be.
No sci-fi or fantasy for me. But I learned anew word!
Thanks for this new word! I read "Brave New World" by Aldous Huxley, and "The Chrysalids"by John Wyndham. I don't know if the latter is a dystopian novel, but I liked both books.
