The Door for Magpie Tales #77

Tess Kincaid of Magpie Tales offers this visual prompt for writers.

Summer Evening, Edward Hopper, 1947

the future leaned
against a half wall of faultless
the locked door
hid what they didn't want to know

bathed in light
wrapped in dreamy visions
the locked door
hid what they'd come to know

sunset fell and morning rose
moths fluttered round the bulb
the locked door yawned
released a puff of careless thoughts

sent the future
reeling, undone and splintered
like the clapboard half wall
where dreams declined to nest

Yes, there's always a locked door that hides what you don't want to know...

The door! Of course the door, love how you brought that element to the fore. Like it...lots!

A door hides and a door opens too , like releasing puffs of careless thoughts... Ah well....

nice..the third and fourth stanzas are esp tight, very nicely writen...oh once the door of careless thoughts are open it is sometimes hard to close...

Well done! I like especially how you used the 'locked door.'

Yes the locked door brings in the depth in this poem. Not just about a pretty summer evening but deeper and darker secrets.

Yep, I figured there was something else going on, too.

Locked doors hide everything. And careless thoughts do indeed send the future reeling. Lovely take on the prompt!

The locked door that cannot stay locked for ever opening and releasing thoughts and things that have to be faced. Wonderful read.

I like the notion of the locked door yawning.
