aberuncator: long tool for pruning tall branches
Sometimes it's hard to learn new words. I'm not sure how long it will take me to learn to ask for this particular tool by its real name rather than, 'Yanno, that thing you use to cut the 'suckers' on the pear tree that grow straight toward the sky before draping themselves over the wires that connect me to the real world. '
Aw, there's so much to learn, so little time.
Oh, come on. You knew this word, didn't you? I'm probably the only person who uses my hands to describe what an aberuncator does instead of using my mouth to name it.

Well, the word KINDA looks like arbor. It also has truncate going there - so arbotruncater - switch a couple letters and drop the T, and voila, abroruncater.
OK, that's too complicated!

Nope, I'm right with you! I find myself frequently talking with my hands -- particularly the older I get! Terrific post for the A day as always! Love it! Enjoy your week!

I just take the easy way out, and call them the tool for tree trimming.
Come now, I've used an aberuncator for years. It's right next to the carburetor in my Camry. :-)
Well, how about that. My cousin just trimmed our trees with one of "those".
I'm sticking with 'loppers', I can pronounce that!

All perfect comments about the word that will probably never be in my vocabulary.
Loppers or thingy will be my lazy word shoice.
Terrific post today. I love learning from your blog.
Awesome way to begin round 9. I love learning new words, my problem is remembering them. I try to use them to remember, but being a city girl this one will be a challenge.
Great post, as always.
I do know of the tool, but not the word. We call it the trimmer on a stick.
I love to learn new words and your are great about introducing them on ABC wednesday.
Nice tool to have!
Please come and see someArt Expression at my page, thanks.
loved your choice of word and description! Never heard of it and would probably just ask for that thing! lol
A new word for me, although we have had those kind of tools around for sixty years in the orchards. Mainly we use the long handled ones that slip and slide and snip, if you know what I mean!
Great word. I always get to learn new word here.
Wonderful new word, Sue! I try to find it in my dictionaries but in vain. Anyway I don't think there is a Dutch word for it and the gardener wouldn't understand either. You enrich our vocabulary! Have a great week!
Of course I knew the word.
I use it all the time, as well as the tool for cutting tall branches; you know the one with long handles, which cuts bits off high above your head and is so hard to balance.
I enlarged my vocabulary, lol !

I can picture you doing that b/c I do that! Thanks for teaching me a new word, too.
I'm part Italian so I speak with my hands at least some of the time. And thanks for giving the 'real' name of the tool. You're right, there's still so much to learn :O)
Who knew? What a fun way to learn a new vocab word each week - I look forward to the upcoming weeks!
That A you created looks like an aberuncator!
Well, I didn't know that word, either. Thank you for the vocabulary lesson!!
