aberuncator: long tool for pruning tall branches
Sometimes it's hard to learn new words. I'm not sure how long it will take me to learn to ask for this particular tool by its real name rather than, 'Yanno, that thing you use to cut the 'suckers' on the pear tree that grow straight toward the sky before draping themselves over the wires that connect me to the real world. '
Aw, there's so much to learn, so little time.
Oh, come on. You knew this word, didn't you? I'm probably the only person who uses my hands to describe what an aberuncator does instead of using my mouth to name it.

Well, the word KINDA looks like arbor. It also has truncate going there - so arbotruncater - switch a couple letters and drop the T, and voila, abroruncater.

I just take the easy way out, and call them the tool for tree trimming.
Come now, I've used an aberuncator for years. It's right next to the carburetor in my Camry. :-)
Well, how about that. My cousin just trimmed our trees with one of "those".
I'm sticking with 'loppers', I can pronounce that!

A new word for me, although we have had those kind of tools around for sixty years in the orchards. Mainly we use the long handled ones that slip and slide and snip, if you know what I mean!

Wonderful new word, Sue! I try to find it in my dictionaries but in vain. Anyway I don't think there is a Dutch word for it and the gardener wouldn't understand either.You enrich our vocabulary! Have a great week!

I use it all the time, as well as the tool for cutting tall branches; you know the one with long handles, which cuts bits off high above your head and is so hard to balance.
I enlarged my vocabulary, lol !
