One of the oldest USPS sites that I'm familiar with. As far as I know, this delightful place didn't have a local post office aid.
The mail is now delivered by boat and distributed by which ever body is on hand to keep the boat near the dock while the pilot passes over the mail and whatever groceries were requested from the store in a small town on the other side of the lake.
Are you familiar with an older version?

Nope. It works for them. Maybe we need to have our mail delivered that way now.
Hey I know this place! Many memories walking down to meet the mail boat, sorting mail, even riding along across the lake to visit Gramps a time or two.
Well, now that is a different and Unique Post Office. Can't say I've ever seen one that closely resembled it.
The USPS is cutting even more next year. Sad.

More rustic than any I've seen. Things may be going that way again. Good on U, Tumblewords!
Really??? Wow-how in heavens name did you stumble upon this? Amazing.
We are going back to buggies soon!

I've come across some very rural post offices in English villages. Sadly, most of them have been closed now.
Hard to believe that's happening nowadays!

Fascinating! I've never seen this. Where did you find this?
How unique! In New Zealand we once made a tour by mail boat sailing from island to island. Mail was delivered and other mail collected to deliver it on the mainland. People were expecting the boat and waiting on the quay.
Interesting post or mail service system.
U is for Umbrella, please come and see. Thanks!
I love the unique USPS office.
I never would have guessed what that was. The islands off shore here have a mail boat, but I have never seen it.
No one can undermine your claim on oldest USPS!!!!!!

Hello.
Looks like something from a forgotten era. I saw on the news a few days ago that USPS is doing away with first class mail. So sad.
Thanks for sharing.

I bet there's an older one somewhere in Europe. Probably not quite as basic as yours.
Bravo for choosing such a unique U-word!
How interesting!
I fear with all the cutbacks US mail delivery will turn prehistoric. :)
