Wanderer for Big Tent

Big Tent Poetry offers this prompt: Pilfer a pearl from the many which were posted and use it as a springboard to a new poem.

I chose Barbara's line (in italics below)

Wanderer

mounds of goldenrod
studded with ironweed
dry as shredded wheat
stare black at the new moon

...she folds into the shadow
plays with pieces of the past
while leftover tears
refresh her secret garden

...whispers of autumn
move among the leaves
to tell the story of the road
she's come to wander

This is beautifully crafted, moves calmly through the story to the final line. The image of shredded wheat made me smile, but it was SO apposite.

I love that you used that gorgeous goldenrod line. And it birthed such a gentle, elegant poem.

I can almost see in my mind goldenrod and moonlight in my secret garden, wonderful imagery in your words.

I love the device you start with: the goldenrod and ironweed, which immediately present in the mind with rich golden yellows and lavenders to deep purples, only to be rendered black not just by night but by the new moon. Wonderful!

The line following the borrowed one as fabulous. Pairing those make the poem, a work with many other gems.

Love the amazing line "dry as shredded wheat" with its great surprise, so soon, so clear, so strong! Terrific that you make the line your very own. Strong and fearless!

We had drought a couple of summers ago, and things were, indeed, that dry. Love what you did with my line.

I agree with the other readers about your third line - brilliant. I also loved "...she folds into the shadow." Very good.

You did a wonderful job of weaving the line you chose into a story-poem. Enjoyed the images you shared.
