ABC WEDNESDAY ROUND 6: L is For!

Legend and Lullaby

According to the ubiquitous Wikipedia:
'Legends are tales that, because of the tie to a historical event or location, are believable, although not necessarily believed. For the purpose of the study of legends, in the academic discipline of folkloristics, the truth value of legends is irrelevant because, whether the story told is true or not, the fact that the story is being told at all allows scholars to use it as commentary upon the cultures that produce or circulate the legends.'

Do you wonder what will happen to our blogs, posts and lives which are exposed to the mighty Internet? Is there a time capsule to hold our legends? Or will there be but a brief blurb: 'they came, they saw, they showed'.

I've tried to tell or write pieces of backgrounds for family members but there are many stories and maybe those which are most important will fall through the cracks.

Tomorrow's Lullaby

comforting and calm
as my parents’ hands
sunlight soothes my back

horizon pulls the sun
behind a giant pine
kaleidoscopes a shadow
across my tiny world

a yellow blink of bird
passes by without a song
but I yearn to leave
love’s lullaby for those who glide
in that space I leave behind

Now you got me thinking! I never thought about what will happen to all our little internet pieces that we have created.

I think of this also, not wanting to be the yellow blink of bird passing by without a song. I have kept a journal for years....Tomorrow's Lullaby does speak to me...

A question well worth considering for a while. However, I'm realistic enough to hope for no more than being a footnote in the history of blogging.

Ah the possible permanence of our ephemral tweets and blogs is a philosophical paradox.

Lovely lullaby poem. I still love your fractals. I haven't had time to create one and every time I see one, I want to stop what I'm doing and try it.

What a lovely poem and great fractal.
I sometimes wonder about what you said as well. Will it all disappear? Oh well - for now we are participants!

Great post! Interesting thoughts here...What do we leave behind, if anything? What is immortalized? What in the world happens to our blogs, our poems, our thoughts? Loved your fractal, too.

Legends intrigue me because they are ancient and right now all at once, and they are believable. Somehow. The truth jumps out of them.

Your poem and the likening of the sun to your parents' hands made my day.

I believe our words will live forever in cyberspace ~ and ensure future generations of our families will know who we were and what mattered most to us.
Loved your post today and thank you for visiting me.

Love your poem Carol, and your fractal. Your words are very thought provoking and speak to me of a lot of things I ponder, as to what remains and what is retrievable.

Yes I do wonder. There are so many of us spilling our thoughts onto electronic paper. If it can all somehow be kept in an electronic time capsule won't that be great? Our gt. grandchildren and beyond will be able to see what gt. grandma was *really* like. (Maybe we should be more careful of what we're saying therefore)!

Your last words:
"but I yearn to leave
love’s lullaby for those who glide
in that space I leave behind"
are so filled with musical longing! Very appealing post!

An interesting thought, I have fragments of photographs and writing from my Grandmother. Your post made me think how wonderful it would have been if she had put all her many and wondrous stories in blog.
Lovely poem and beautiful fractal.

My iGoogle is still free for the moment, which also means my blog. Does this mean that Google will keep it for me forever till 1000s years latter when my blog becomes a legend!!!

well, i suppose it depends what history holds whether we'll be famous centuries from now

i think often on my blog and who will see it years after i'm gone. it's my hope that they'll see my footprint in the blogosphere and cherish it as they would an artifact. your poem is, as always, beautiful. you have a graceful way with the pen. have a great day.

I love your commentary on legend. How true it is that it doesn't matter if legends are true, because even if they're not, they tell us important things about the people and culture!

I fear someday archeaologists will unearth the remanants of my life and decide that the downfall of our civilization can be attributed to lunacy.
