Tanka to the Past

high-rise icy peaks
guard the wavy desert heat
wagon train on pause
hunts the hazy hard pan trail
coyotes howl into the dusk

Wonderful imagery. The howling coyotes would give me pause as well.

This felt so good, I was there watching that desert heat, looking for the trail and felt the coyotes lurking. Beautifully done, Susan.

The atmosphere of this poem reminded me, somehow, of the Gold Rush. Thanks for sharing such beautiful words.
