Literal Ear

This is a literal response - my shovel and I are spending far too much time together. I swear I hear the snow fall. The silence gets louder and louder. Now I'm off to bed for a little rest before the next inches require relocation.

computer fan hums
creates background
for my breath on hold

while I search for
the word that resonates
to a reader's ear

silent and sneaky
night snows fat flakes
...morning's first sound

'$#(@)(%)'
my voice calls out to me,
gotta go shovel again!'

Totally Optional Prompts asks for What do you Hear?

This is perfect! I uttered a few curse words at my snowblower and shovel today. We got hit with about 15 inches overnight. $#(@)(%)' indeed!

excellent! For the first time for years we had proper snow recently, its a novelty to us, regular snow shovelling isn't something that appeals to me...

This poem gave me a giggles for sure!
I remember when I used to do the same. Snow is quite rare, so it's a nice change.....especially when you don't have to shovel. Well put together piece!

Hugs Sherrie
Be careful and don't hurt yourself shoveling!

Wow! You folks are deep in snow whilst it's just cold, grey and windy over here. Loved it!

Wonderful piece of writing!

Thankfully there is enough manpower in my home that rarely do I have to shovel. So for me each fresh snowfall is a welcome event. My husband however would totally relate to this.

Well done!

I got a good laugh from this one because I am sitting here today under somewhat sunny but, cloudy skies. I don't have any snow right now.

Seriously though, I am sorry you have to endure that shoveling each day. Thanks for sharing. Have a nice day.

By the way, I have a writing award for you at "Blog Award" if you would like stop by. Have a nice day.

I now live in Texas. But your beautiful lines reminded me of the soft crushing sound from fresh snow when I stand on it.

Dear Sue,
You do get lots of snow!
Do be careful. Spring will melt what is left when you weary of the shovel.

What a picture...all those evocative and *very* real sounds (I wonder what you'd have placed for the symbols, though - me? I've got a potty-mouth)...I'll hope for you the sound of ice and snow melting. Clear rivers with a tenor's warble.

Forgive me the grin as I read.

Could you toss a bit of that snow toward South Florida, please? Aim directly for me, just don't let go of the shovel.

"night snows fat flakes" I like how you said this! I'll think of this poem every time I have to shovel now!
