Smorgasbord at Sunday Scribblings

Two pieces of poetry are posted here in the spirit of smorgasbord which is the prompt from Sunday Scribblings. A wonderfully fast moving meme, feel free to read and play along with the bloggers!

smorgasbord
joy of spring gutter
Stellar's jay

In Scottsdale Shadows

Chunked tomatoes
cucumbers squared
green and red peppers
mound the earthen bowl.

Beyond Borgata Shops
scabrous stones crumble
over Conquistadoré bones,

silhouette of one-hump
Camelback crawls across
gazpacho.

Day in the Desert, original watercolor by Turner.

Sue,
A spring smorgasbord to delight all the senses!
I went to Arizona for the first time last year and I was smitten.

We regularly get starlings and grackles in our gutters, foraging away. Thanks for the spring image; we need it here in Ontario, where we're still covered in snow!

Both haiku and poem are delightful. I love the bright and lively colors of the first stanza contrasted with the conquistador's bones!

I wish that I could write poetry like that. But, I wouldn't know where to start. I like how the haiku makes me think of Spring. Thanks for stopping by and reading mine. I decided to get back to doing my writing prompts.

gazpacho doesn't like to work in my mouth!

Regardless, good work!

I LOVE "In Scottsdale Shadows." What a mastery of sound, precision, and compression. I'm jealous :)
