Once over the Rubicon

This week’s, and the twenty fourth, Writer’s Island prompt is: “Empowered”.

My response follows. There's nothing like a dance with death to empower a survivor.

**

flickering lights from past
evade the sterile cocoon
black lines the silent surround

between the mid-dark of night
and pink pearl of sunrise
another day fills the niche

immediacy once removed
demise holds an empty threat
fades to the faraway horizon

doubt triggered whispers
float through the distance
ghosts breathe into shadows

**

We would never know how one thing is important to us until we almost lost. How much more our life, the only one we have.

I wish you well.
