Hesitation

smudges of
then
recede
like taillights
fading
into mist

now
refuses welcome
rebels against
signs that
exhaust the
road weary

in this stop-and-go
disorder
resolutions mutter
boredom
recall endless
dead ends

hug carbon
neutral lines
now
forestalls collision
then
slinks into the fog

Hmm the stop-and-go...sometimes that's exactly how new year and resolutions feel...you want them, then you stop...
Happy new year and many poems Tumblewords.

I just started Sunday Scribblings yesterday, and it was a good decision that I made. There is such a neat variety of writing that comes from the prompt "New". It stirs up something different in everyone. I enjoy ready poetry, like yours, because I have no idea how to write a poem. Instead, I appreciate others who know how to do it well.

To me, this is the most eloquent part:

in this stop-and-go
disorder
resolutions mutter
boredom
recall endless
dead ends

What I'm living now.

Love the metaphor used that promote understanding of your thoughts . Love the effort in attention needed to understand your writing. Love your art too. Happy new year and blessings to you and your family!

My favorite part. Fabulous poem.

"Resolutions mutter" indeed. Beautifully ambivalent poem, and taps into how I feel about starting the new year - partly hopeful, partly weary, partly worried.

So true. The past fades so quickly, dropping behind and out of reach. Beautiful poem.

No resolutions for me, only goals.

A favorite of mine now, Susan, both the poem and photo. I had to concentrate on the poem, but it was well worth it. The photo immediately revealed its story to me, though!

Happy New Year!

"smudges of

recede
like taillights
fading
into mist"

this is how my resolutions have always felt in the past.

Even though I have hoisted hopes, there is an eerily similarity between this poem and my feelings! I somehow know you'll be able to relate to this. I wrote my poem first, then found out my car needed a repair job that will cost some big bucks. Back to the board of contemplation for me!
Wonderful words of wisdom behind all your poetry. I'm trying to stay positive and wish the "smudges would recede into the mist" unfortunately they are following me instead! Happy New years anyway...Change will come when and if we want it too!

Hugs and Happy New Year
Sherrie

Those first lines simply sweep you up into the poem.
Amazing as usual.

Love that first stanza especially. I also like the title, Hesitation. Your poetry is spare in wording, complex in meaning, and moving. I really enjoyed this.
