L for ABC Wednesday

ABC Wednesday offers the letter L for this week's prompt. Thanks!
Come play along...

Leaf

she discovered a brittle leaf
pale green and curled alone

picked it up and smiled
to find autumn in her hand

stretching her knotty fingers
she gently traced the veins

with hands that bore the signs
of seasons' multi-strings

limbs shrug off their leaves
when summer drops the light

My poetry books North of Summer and South of Winter are currently available at Amazon and, as always, available from my LuluBookstore in print or as download.

I'm always impressed by the different words and subjects people choose for ABC Wednesday each week. "Leaf" is the perfect choice for this autumn day! Wonderful poem--I love the line "to find autumn in her hand." As I grow older, I find myself more in tune with the beauty of nature and the changing seasons.

Evocative. Autumn in her hand, and upon her hand, in the knotty fingers that haave seen many seasons.

I really like this poem! The old hand picking up the fallen leaf. A hand that has known many autumns.
Have a great day!

You captured it. All my leaves are leaving as I write.

Your image and poem perfectly captured that bittersweet wonder of autumn. Lovely tumbling words, like leaves drifting down. Thank you!

Lovely L!
I also am finding Autumn under my foot!
Wet leaves can be slippery!
Happy ABC Wednesday.

I felt as if I was observing the seasons of humans and nature at the same time.

I like how light you kept this, from a from the graceful tracing of the veins, to how you let summer bow out. Brittle leaf, strong write!

season's multi-strings seems to jar a little but the phrase is growing on me.

I very much enjoyed this tender one, how it flowed easy with its moving drift...until the last stanza showed how the hard truth drops. Exceptional : )
