W for ABC Wednesday

ABC WEDNESDAY ROUND 6: W is for Wednesday

Warning

I'm not sure how old this washing machine is  - but no matter how many times I fill it with laundry I never fail to wonder about the wording in this warning. Does it mean what it says, or does it mean what it thinks it says? The first two lines are so wise.

The third: 'Failure to do so...' confuses me. It reads like a double negative to me. Sometimes I think about painting that line out but what would I ponder while waiting for the tub to fill?

Ah, yes, we don't want to remove anything to ponder while the tub fills!! Fun post for the day! I love it! While you're pondering don't forget to enjoy your day! And may it be a great one!

That second item must imply that the manufacturers does not trust their own washing machine to do a proper job.

The third item that if you fail to explode you may die. You have been warned...

That's an intriguing sign :-)

I have never come across such an bizarre warning, you're right, the wording is rather peculiar...

I've never heard of a washer exploding or catching on fire. I wonder if this is a common occurrence? Hmmm, things I will ponder while doing laundry from now on.

Hmmmm, how odd. Words to ponder while waiting. Fun choice for the letter W.

Never knew the simple task of washing was so hazardous. Is there a choice element in the last question because I don't fancy the first option.
You made me laugh, isn't there a saying 'laugh in the face of danger', not usually used in the context of laundry.

Hmm that makes me think too. Happy Wednesday!

I am always amazed at some of these warnings. Do they ever reread them and realize what they have written?
Or do they really think people are that stupid?
Well I guess after some of the ridiculous lawsuits over lack of warnings - I guess they have to!
Take care.

My guess is that at least one person has done what the warning says not to...how else would they think of something so strange to post on a washing machine warning sticker? I'm inspired to do a load of wash to see if I have anything half as interesting to read on mine.

My washing machine has as its third warning - Never reach into the washer until the tub has completely stopped spinning - duh....

Thanks for the visit! I'm thinking that the machine needs Plavix. Its on a strict diet: no grease, oil, etc...LOL

It's a miracle that you are still alive with such a machine, lol !

Let me tell you of my experience with a gas dryer many years ago. I put a bundle of the kids clothes in the dryer in the basement, then proceeded to spray a new gabardine rain coat with Scotchguard. Later, when I pulled the clothes out of the dryer everything that was made of cotton or had cotton in it just fell apart! A whole load of kids' clothes! Happy ending -- the company reimbursed me for the clothes when I sent them a list of what was ruined.

I cannot help laughing when I read these comments, especially the one Rune wrote! If you fail to explode you'll die! So if you succeed to explode you don't die! I'll keep that in mind the next time I fill the washing machine.

Haha...I'm with Roger!

Has the manufacturer been sued by the family of the person who blew up whilst smoking a cigarette and watching their gasoline soaked overalls tumble around in the washer?! :p

Your right maybe they should change this sign. Happy ABC Wed.

Clever take on the W! Gosh, I never even read these signs...

You certainly know how to live dangerously!

LOL I think you should write a letter to the washing machine company asking for an explanation. It's the least they could do.

A person would have to be pretty hard up for cleaning rags to wash something with gas on it!

I've seen signs like that in the laundromats over here. The big commercial machines have such warnings on them, particularly the tumble driers. Well, they do get VERY hot.

I can imagine the owner arguing with a pedantic guy after the machine went up in flames, about double negatives and what 'failure to do so' actually meant! LOL!

Kate said...

The moral of that story is "stay away from the washing machine."

jabblog said...

I think what it is really saying is 'Don't use machines to do women's work.'

Guess the writers of such messages were not English majors in college ;-P

Great choice.

I call those the "CYB" postings! Cover Your Butt!
It does one to ponder about it, though. It's like those warning labels on pillows and mattresses.
Death???
Cause of death: washing machine. Or, mattress.
