lemming-like
they leap to damp sand
intent on lodging spawn
wild-eyed tourists
with visions of pretense
links to submarine sighting
cart empty tubs for take
at the full of moon
when tiny bodies jump
from the high tide of sea
meet with clumsy hands
and heavy thrashing feet

Oh, my - like some others, I also had to look up "grunion". Poety often confuses me (as I am so easily confued), but now having the proper reference, I enjoyed this poem. And I love the images that appear on your site - unique and beautiful, and a certainly unique Magpie.
