Slow Walk for Magpie Tales

Magpie Tales #16 offers an onsite image for prompt. Please follow the link to see the image, read what others wrote and play along.

Slow Walk

flat as waning seas
before embers of the dying sun

a brown shoe phase
bridged a span of neon years

alchemy of mercurial drab
reheeled plans, revamped her days

walked her from stiletto reds
to the pacing of plain espadrilles

that brown shoe tide
held her to the waning sea

I like the double meaning here. The waning sea brings sadness on some under level...you know what I mean?

This is a pure delight. Ages walk us to our future and across our past and we reach it with pure inevitability.

Coming from a military perspective, the connotation of brown shoes and the sea speaks volumes.

How lovely your perspective ....

Lovely! I am so happy I found Magpie so that I can take part of all the lovely words that are written!

and thank you for the comment, it was one of my first ones, which made it very special!

Regulated to a pair of brown walking shoes that come in with the tide and the go out with the waning sea --sad and a bitter sweet tale --
wonderfully written,

My fat feet ( in spite of the diuretics ) are more comfortable now in sandals! Aging brings with it many difficulties and laments...one of them is the adjustment to low heeled shoes and living with cellulite.

Each line in this stands alone, then walks hand in hand with the others. Brilliantly done...

Wow - lots going on here TW - the last line grabbed me again and again:

"that brown shoe tide
held her to the waning sea"

Me and my brown shoe self got some melancholy now.

I love your Magpie, thanks for sharing

Such a beautiful perspective--I love the representative of shoes indicative of our life's phases. this is my favorite line:
walked her from stiletto reds
to the pacing of plain espadrilles
--poignant

Our adult lives start with excruciating fashion and work towards comfort. Well written.

Dear How creative! A way of seeing a poem as a visual art; colors, shape and line, etc. The composition with the shoes on the shore, a very visual water analogy. A landscape of the mind and soul. Surreal. A great method to help me through those dry spells; days that turn into years. A new way of being! I like this and can so relate! Thank-you for your inspiring and most excellent haiku poem.

The 'brown shoe tide' is such a striking image. You've done it again!

Gosh, I can certainly relate here. The red stilettoes are in the back of the closet.

So good...I think I'll stay at the espadrilles stage for a while..but the brown suedes are waiting!

Sue,
All my life, for as log as I can remember, I've always noticed a lady's shoes. From stilletto heels to nursing whites, they do reveal a girls personnalit of the moment.
