Charybdis or Scylla

in those deadly days
the gatekeeper of vaults
squeaked out bytes
from his rusty hinge

..sad tales that echoed
once and again in
upward swells
whispered from shells

..of each missing conch
adrift in Poseidon's salt

The Poefusion Prompt: hinge, bite, conch, gatekeeper, Charybdis with the and/or theme of Only Once.

clever wist on the word byte... it gives the poem a kind of "new age" appearance. very well put together....
