Wraparound

on hallowed ground
novices perform
a masquerade of plenty

...pave over local ashes
erect phallic rooflines
fingering the faded sky

...chastise the jaded
flail the weary watchers
with their hackneyed play

Love those phallic rooflines! I'm always amazed by your word choices. You pack plenty in a little package!

linda's right, it does pack a punch. was it inspired by the fractal?

I like the sounds of the last stanza, I actually connected it like this:

chastise the jaded
flail...

love that.

BTW - in Firefox browser this page looks odd. Some of the text is off and the left side almost runs off the screen.

Some great words in these.

I'm not sure what this poem means but I love the way it sounds. All the Fs in the middle stanza really stand out...like they are supposed to, I guess, when phallic is involved!

Rich words, powerfully put together. Wonderful, as always!

First of all, love the poem, its got a great feel to it and then it complements the fractal so well too.

"If you blink your eyes fast you can make the buildings jiggle...."

Your first one is my favorite. I fear we are all guilty of that, most days.
