Damask and Lemon Drops ~ RWP #108

Damask and Lemon Drops

a motif, lethal as milky disease,
etched shriveled lemon drops
on the ivory tablecloth

hysterics land as if on helideck
flittering with wild soap-opera glee
doubles play and crack

as amoeba for the day
proclaiming innocence of all wrong
they spread blame redolent as seed

tasteless lemon drops, duly scribed
upon the ivory damask cloth, see
one more hand-me-down performance

motif, milky disease, lemon drop, ivory, hysterics, helideck, flitter, doubles were the words culled from the dictionary according to the prompt directions    Visit the RWP site for the challenge and others' poetry!

This was a strange prompt. You did it admirably.

This is a lovely use of language. Damask is one of my favourite materials; rich, opulent, like your words.
"proclaiming innocence of all wrong
they spread blame redolent as seed"
I like very much. I also love the fractal too!

wow. I always try to get the actors I work with to steer clear of "hand me down performance" though I have never heard it stated so clearly.

As we say in theater, "Use it!" (I will).

Such vivid imagery.

Thank you.

Dramatic and lovely. There is so much tension swarming. I guess we don't need to ask about your holiday.

your poem brings to mind spilling Kool-aid on my grandmother's tablecloth...I don't think I was ever truly forgiven!
You made something really beautiful out of those "found" words...love your imagination!

The words here are awesome, demanding a slow read. "lethal as milky disease" sends shivers down my spine. Very nice.

You do great things with short poetry. This is quite fine, in my eyes...

True to the prompt you are! I was too afraid to follow to the letter like you did so well. I need to let go and push myself so I can match your talent. Job well done.

from Therese -- I admire how this poem presents the rapidity with which something sweet (milk or lemon candies or the happiness-color yellow) can turn sour (curdled, or stained, or the jaundice-color yellow). I love the "amoeba for the day" image. I had to look up "helideck" in the dictionary--thanks for a new word!

Love the hysterics on the helideck. I can see the fluttering hands in that.
Hope it's all fiction.

Love the flittering line. You had some challenging words to use (at least they would be for me), but pulled it off in fine fashion. This one conjured childhood memories of spilling things on mom's finest. The horror!

I really like "lethal as milky disease." Cool image.

I like every single word, and the beguiling poem that you crafted.

"wild soap-opera glee" - great phrase!

I find it a funny poem! I like how those little domestic "episodes" get the dramatic treatments in your poem, all through mixing the tension between the sensation of "lemon drops" and strong syllables.

How did you mange to bring it all together? Incredible! Had to read it a few times, just to absorb the cool strangeness.

Wacko! No mean feat cobbling that collection together! Well done!

I like the word selections, and the really strong visuals you created from them. A tantalizing abstraction.

A description of something I cooked, that curdled...

I get the sense of something not quite wanted, beautiful but yet disgusting in your description of the cloth. Nice use of your words.
