One dozen words: flame ~ question ~ typical ~ boyish ~ tangle ~ parade ~ thigh ~ defy ~ smile ~ gasp ~ slip ~ wake
AND
Three phrases: “Say more,” “There is also the matter of ____” and “He started by _____.”
Genie
a typical parade, a chorus of runes
wakes the genie with a boyish smile
his tangle of flame slips with a gasp
the measure of time pricks my thigh
defies doubt that hangs round my neck
entrenched in that rusty skeleton key
rubbing his bright amber talisman
I question him with a puckish plea
beg him to say more to pleasure me
he starts with soothing words breathed
in an acquiescent sigh then confesses
there is also the matter of...
the genie with a boyish smile
slips with a gasp into tangles of flames
a chorus of runes, the usual parade
A fractal image.

Fabulous!
I am enjoying The Big Tent. : )
How very frustrating for the poor girl!
How beautiful, Susan, you worked the
words in so nicely.

I like your chorus of runes.
The echo between the first and last stanzas is a nice touch.
I have enjoyed catching up with you. It has been a very long winter and I so wish for a genie.....
It is always a delight to read your work.

Puckish genie for sure...very entertaining read. vb
Fabulous! The genie in the bottle at the beginning, and back in the bottle at the end, again. Well done.
Very intriguing. I read it more than one way- the second was quite erotic.
I really enjoyed the poem.. thanks.
Very effective, beguiling repetitions!
Love it!
rivulets of space
Due to Census work for the past one month, I have not been able to visit and comment. I will be back with a vengeance after a day or two!
I liked the runes chorus too! The imagery and innuendo is magical.
You did well with the words; it can be so difficult.
Interesting poem.

Such a nice use of the words. It's so fun to see all the different ways they stimulate our imaginations!
Man, what a tease, genie.
You know, reading more and more of these fine poems, I have to wonder what kind of book these words were originally lifted from. :)
Like NamingConstellations, I wanted to say, what a tease! And, yes, who picks these words, anyway? : )
a humorous genie with too much time on his hands... liked the setup .. and here we go again... and the fractal was so very interesting and intriguing...
