M for ABC Wednesday

ABC WEDNESDAY ROUND 7: M is for.....

Mudra

While reading Q's Corner at http://q-corner.blogspot.com// (an especially wonderful blog), I noticed a book entitled Mudras: Yoga in Your Hands.Mudras: Yoga in Your Hands Because I credit yoga for much of my flexibility, I found mudras interesting enough to read several articles online and to watch various programs which further illuminated this method of movement.

According to the ubiquitous Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mudra: A brain research paper published in the National Academy of Sciences in November 2009, demonstrated that hand gestures stimulate the same regions of the brain as language.

I ordered the book and expect it show up mid-week in time to add spice to the gray days to come. Do you know mudras?

I'm afraid I have to plead ignorance on this. It sounds very interesting. I hope you do some follow through after the book arrives.

Very interesting about hand language, - I have always found yoga both relaxing and stimulating, but don't do it much now, - I have lost the springs in my knees and can't find them!!!

Great !! Highlighting Mudra as the M-Word, an unusual word i think, is very clever. Must add that the hand and eye movements in Indian classical dances are also called "Mudras."

Do I know Mudras? I'm afraid not, until today. Each week I learn a few new things.

Maybe that is why so many people can't talk without using their hands to gesture with.

I have never heard the term before but it sure sounds intriguing! You'll have to share more!
I have never done much yoga but I am hearing more and more about its effect on arthritis.

Sue, Leave it to Sherry to inspire and enlight! I'd be fortunate to find a totally mundane yoga class in my town. I've practiced, but it's been years; I could use more strength, flexibility and balance!

These look like smoke.

The chefs have made the pestle and mortar popular these days.

It sounds much easier than what traditional yoga is supposed to be.

I hope you love the book and practicing mudras. Some swamis only express themselves through mudras. That's something I've seen and found incredible.
