Y for ABC Wednesday

ABC WEDNESDAY ROUND 5: Y

Y is for Yurt and Yearn

See a gallery of yurts here! See Wikipedia's yurt information  here.

Something must be blowing through my head, rattling bones and whistling yesterday's tunes.

For the last ten years, I've yearned to devote myself to off-the-grid living, simplifying and downsizing. Shuffling stuff from corner to corner doesn't seem to cut it.

What if I had to get rid of things I don't plan to use the rest of my life? What if I moved into a yurt? Or a cozy one room edifice where things I needed were within reach, the light was natural (mostly) and the electric bill forgot to show up? What if??

Once, with a little software app, I designed a perfect home. When I dreamed my way through the finished plan I noticed there was no sink from which to draw water for coffee, tea or soup. I should take courses in design or technical illusions.

Maybe if I would quit wishing (see the snail house W for ABC Wednesday) I could actually accomplish something. But maybe not.

May 2010 help you realize your deepest Yearns!

I'm just not ready for yurt living. Sounds like a good idea, tho.

Yearning for a yurt! I can't find a place for everything in a house! How would I stay tidy in a yurt? (What a delicious word it is though!)

Yurt always makes me think of yoghurt for some reason.

I guess when you're designing your dream home it doesn't need to come with all fixtures and fittings. They could be handy though...

I thought this is called hut..so this is yurt...hmmm I think I like to live like this one. Very simple and easy to maintain. Thanks for sharing!

Yearning for a yurt has got to be one of the most original posts for ABC. A fun read and a wonderful post.

I think yurts is the best Y idea ever : ) Brilliant! Like always!

Aren't we all have this dream from the very first day we dream of a tree house and doll house when so long ago.

I have seen pictures of some wonderful woven and felted yurts, - but not sure that I would like to live in one. However, we do have a son and daughter-in-law who live 'off the grid' quite comfortably and creatively

That's a beautiful little yurt. It looks like it would make a perfectly cozy home.

After experiencing some modern much complicated life, we each crave for a simple life? Is that really human nature?

But maybe, we're fed up with the chaos of life, and so we yearn for the simple things in life!

NOw this wish of yours is as good a wish of mine...:)

Good day Tumblewords!

It sounds great : living in a yurt, if only you can travel with it and see much of the world. You don't need a sink if you stay on campingsites. Anyway: A Happy New Year!

I too would love to have a yurt near a warm sandy beach.
I too yearn for off the grid.
That is until I need yarn!
Happy ABC Y...
Happy New Year.

Now this yurt looks very appealing! As much as I try to simplify and downsize, I have a hard time parting with much of my "stuff." I, too, find myself moving clutter from one corner to another:)

Your dream sounds heavenly. I am thinking of downsizing once again, but maybe not quite to this yet. Great Y and dream....

I think deep down we all yearn for yurt living but successful marketeers and keeping up with the Jone's has warped our minds and crowded our closets.

Congratulations with the most innovative Y I have seen so far (including all the previous rounds)!

The idea sounded tempting :-)

A Mongolian yurt is the ideal off grid shelter but a Pacific yurt sound a whole lot warmer. Oh for the simple life.

Ah, the ideal home! But how would you blog? LOL!

A lot of buildings like this in my neighbourhood...somehow though, they don't look so cosy...

Dear Tumblewords, I wish you a most happy New 2010. Thank you for the lovely new year's wish.
Beautifully said and nice, serene photo. I wonder why simplifying seems to be so tough for most of us. I would love to see your simple, perfect home design - I've always enjoyed dreaming about a one room house (there is a book on those somewhere)...with the kitchen/bedroom/den/living room all flowing into each other...maybe a loft for the bedroom...and everything set on a hillside overlooking a little valley. Dreams are nice.

May be the little tent like house is not good in winter. Can't imagine having a fire inside.

Thanks for info.

I never heard of a yurt until this weeks letter Y!
& I really like your idea about living simply.
I also believe life would be boring if we didn't dream!
besides, you never know...

Here I am, fellow yurter! Yours looks quite cozy and comfy and modern!
I love the way they look. And,yes, that snail house was something else. I'm with ya on the fantasy thing...

Wishing is akin to imagining and life would be dull without! Love the Yurt but I know I'd be adding extensions in no time.

You don't need a sink - just a good-sized tank to collect rainwater. We lived that way for 12 years. I have to say that it took me no time at all to get used to turning on a tap again!

I have not been a regular poster on ABC Wednesday, but hope to do that in the future with more regularity because of all the wonderful bloggers and their contributions. Yurts seem to be popular today and each one has been so unique. Yours is lovely; looks a bit more luxurious than those in Mongolia, tho. Great design!

Yurt living is great symbol for living simply. Love your Y post.

I want a yurt too for a studio.
We stayed at a B&B up on the Goobagandra river once that was a wooden yurt in the bush on the river bank, I loved it. Living off grid sounds environmentally and aesthetically great but I wonder if the reality would be quite as romantic as the idea is. Ah well. Have a good 2010 Sue.
