B for ABC Wednesday

B is for Blue, Blue and more Blue

Blue. A bleaching method. A feeling. A color.

I remember Grandma pouring dark blue liquid from a tiny bottle into the laundry rinse to remove the dinginess from white clothing.

When daylight is short and dark, do you feel blue? I do.

I remember my first box of eight crayons which contained one generic blue.

Recently I purchased a telescoping tower of 150 (can you believe that?) Crayola crayons to replace a cheap Brand X set of 12. I'm not sure I can select all the blues from this tower, but some are shown. These blues make shading delicious and choice difficult.

Here are some web blues. and the ubiquitous Wikipedia Blue

You must be an exceptional artist with crayons, some many shade of blues. I always love the perfect blue sky and try hard to try to capture its true color with my camera.

OMG, I too remember that blue stuff my mom used to put in the washing machine when she was doing the white sheets!

Thanks for the memory!

I saw something on Twitter in the past week that will almost certainly interest you: Crayola Color Chart, 1903-2010.
Great shot!

On behalf of the ABC Wednesday team, thank you! - Ramblin' with Roger

Phew, the crayons take me back, we used to layer lots of different colours onto a piece of paper and then scratch a simple picture - it always came out multi-coloured!

And the smell!!

Isn't it amazing all the different shades and tones of blue that crayola has made? They really are the very best crayons.

Bluing! I used to use that on my daughter's diapers. Bought it from the Vermont Country Choice. Crayola spoils us for choice, and that is a very beautiful thing.

What is it about stationery: paper, pens, pencils and crayons that makes me so happy? Now a tower of 150 colours? That would probably make my day. :)

"You remember Grandma pouring dark blue liquid from a tiny bottle into the laundry rinse to remove the dinginess from white clothing.".. I remember that too! Blue is a very popular word in expressions and sayings:"once in a blue moon.."but also "blue blood", "blue cheese", "blue girls", "blue movies"and "blue jokes". A redhead is called Bluey in Australia,"a blue dahlia"= something impossible.Great choice!

We never outgrow our love of crayons. It seems to be a gender friendly and universal phenomenon.

Yes, I remember the blue liquid that was used to make white whiter. I saw grandma doing this too. I used to wonder why a dark blue liquid can makes clothes white!

There are many childhood memories tied to the color blue. For example, "Oh dear what can the matter be... he promised he'd buy me some pretty blue ribbons to tie up my bonnie brown hair," and the color "sky-blue-pink which a classmate called when we played a color-tag game. ;-) Great post for B!

I didn't know there were that many different color blue crayons. I see your favorite on the right - it's not as pointed as the others!

Great post!

B-utiful remembrances. I've forgotten about 'blueing' the laundry...very cool. I like blues even when I get the blues. Last evening the sky was an amazing indigo - wish the camera could capture exactly that color.
