Once Around a Mango
knifing past the pit
I slide slices from a golden half
toward a cut glass dish
shapeshifting toward summer
tongue primed by passion
I meet the second half at the sink
suck the lingering essence
from the yellow red green rind
lick juice from my life line
fantasizing Hawaii's warmth
I finger the strings of stone
on this gray winter midday

Susan, oh yes the Mango. You have described eating perfectly. It is the favourite fruit in Mexico. There are three varieties, of course from which I cannot tell the difference.

Ooh - love this one! Mangoes are so sensual, so over-the-top decadent. Beautifully captured.
Oh gosh - mango! What a vivid treat you create!
it is healthy and fun to read and eat fruits.
Mango smells perfectly yummy.
Geez, my mouth is watering!
Appropriately lush!

Great line!
I must go out and buy a mango.
Love this passionate encounter with a Mango!
Glorious, delicious images, Susan. I can visualize and almost taste it. Yum.
Your verse was tastier than the fruit itself. :)
i need to get over my mango apprehension. :) this might have done the trick.
I love the title. What a luscious poem.
Mangolicious. Especially appreciate S1, as sharp as the knife, as clean as the cut. Well done.
I think the mango may be the most fragrant and unusual fruit. I just love it. Your descriptions are perfect. I especially loved the last stanza . . . perfect.
I like the "shapeshifting toward summer."
Much to love in this. You capture what's difficult in the mango, yet it lives up to its rewards.
