Poem for Carry On Tuesday

Carry On Tuesday offers the opening lines of the Charles Dickens tale David Copperfield. Whether I shall turn out to be the hero of my own life......

when other heroes
fall and turn to powder
disappointment drapes
my scarecrow skeleton

force fed gruel
and allegations
offer not a soupcon
of recompense

in that second struggle
I have no choice
but to become
the hero of my own life
even as I doubt

A reluctant hero, it seems.
Great words.

I love the image and how you bring self-doubt around to heroism in the end.

At first I thought your illustration was a predatory bird. It looked threatening, anyway and I suppose self-doubt is just that.

Mine is here

There is something very disturbing about that image!

Are you saying to depend only on ourselves and no one else?

I particularly like how you continued the Dickens imagery with the 'force fed gruel.' It made me realise that sometimes it is the most unlikely person who becomes a hero in their own life through their resilience and tenacity. David Copperfield and Oliver Twist are a case in point!

I love your fractal. It's beautiful. I also could relate to your words here. Especially that last stanza. Keep up the good work. Have a great day.
