Carry On Tuesday prompts with the opening lines of the poem 'The Listeners' by Walter de la Mare
"Is there anybody there?" said the Traveller,
Knocking on the moonlit door
Threshold
knocking on the moonlit door
deep within the woods
the weary traveller calls out
'is there anybody there?'
tiredness rides his shoulders
a spot of rest his only wish
the cabin throws back moonlight
keeps the window dark
he nudges the knob
the door squeaks inward
calls him forward
not a sound pushes back
setting down his pack
he swings his walking stick...
the bed he'd left a decade past
waits behind the moonlit door

oh i love it sue!!! it is like a little mystery i am dying to know where he has been...
Wonderful tale full of suspense. I'm curious to see why he left his place behind a decade ago. Well done. Have a great day.

Beautifully written and leaving a mystery. just how I like it.
such an intrigue...
the picture is just right for the poem..
I like it and ending is a pleasant surprise since when read pieces like these, there's something dark but I like that yours is happy end
Your house is silent and empty just like mine. It is interesting to see how the prompt shapes our responses.
I really like the line, "the cabin throws back moonlight"-- very nice.

Delicious and suspenseful. I am completely intrigued. The fern reminds me of the New Zealand coat of arms. Lovely!
