winter, off kilter,
jumped
from the grateful day
of autumn, dropped
swirlwinds of flakes
a yardstick in depth
solstice, so timely,
arrived
on a flash of Sun
wings of New Moon
linked to Pluto and Mars
frosted flakes in layers of ice
R.S.V.P.'s intact
they partied as one
flung knapsacks of snow
into the eerie silence
and settled under cover
for a long-season slumber

Ummmm, I like this tribute to the season and the elements of winter. Very nice.
Lovely!
Love it! :)
There is a beautiful spiritual empathy with winter here.
Excellent.
Sounds like it will be a long winter's nap. Very appealing.
What a lovely seasonal piece
Yes, I imagine the Solstice was right on time and Winter itself, it seemed to me, was even early ;)
Lovely piece.
so serene, yet 'frosted flakes' made me so hungry! :D
You are an amazing poet sue. xo
happy holidays to u too
Timely, well written poem. It's cold. Wish I could have a long winter's nap.
I had completely forgotten that it was late autumn and not winter... oops!
Brrr...I can feel them connect. Beautiful poem. We don't get snow in Texas. Your visual brings it my way.

Lovely poetic dance going on here; music, too -- I always appreciate the sound of your poems. Wonderful!
Thanks for commenting on my blog
Lovely, you describe this solstice so well!
I particularly like the way the first two stanzas roll off the tongue of my brain. And within those two stanzas I particularly like the swirlwinds of flakes a yardstick in depth :-)
Its a perfect piece around Christmas - Happy Holidays and seasons greetings to you. Thanks for dropping over to my blog. :)
Merry Christmas to you. Hope you enjoy another fine year of blogging. Cheers.
If the word 'swirlwinds' is yours I congratulate you on it!
terrific poem
absolutely love the beginning!
swirlwinds is a great creation. I thought it ook off after that.
Very nice. You are a really talented writer. I, too, would like to someday replace gainful employment with writing. Thanks for visiting my site. I just recently started blogging and really appreciate the comments.
You have a wonderful way with language. thank you!
I really like this. That middle verse is so... connected. I love that quality here and it's so appropriate for us in the NW. You have SO much more snow than we. We have about half that. I suppose you folks are taking your shovels to bed with you these days; rather like the old west when we didn't sleep without our Colts... great post here.
I enjoyed your poetic connections to winter and it sure looks COLD in that photograph!
Hugs and blessings,
you use your words too beautifully :)
