B for ABC Wednesday

Begonia

My garden is a fictional plot. At no time have I considered myself to be proficient in identifying or growing any green thing. Or any other colored thing, for that matter. You might remember a few years back when I was totally excited about the first tiny green tomato that grew from its upside down plant. What an experience that was.

Somewhere along the way, a daughter bought this gorgeous begonia because I drooled, ever so slightly, and...after all, what's a daughter to do when she knows her mother wants something?

Unfortunately, the plant lasted only long enough for a few photos but I can still see those leaves which looked air brushed with metallic paint and the tiny blossoms which had more appeal than a chocolate-covered cherry. I'd never seen anything like it and don't expect I'll run into another one in this lifetime. Absolutely beautiful.

I checked the American Begonia Society site and decided it might be of the 'rex' family. What do you think?

I do love begonias. They come in such a choice of colors. Never could grow them myself though. I guess i don't have much of a green thumb for delicate flowers.

What a beautiful photo of a gorgeous flower!! Perfect for the B Day! I love begonias, too! I manage to grow a few house plants, but then I have lived in apartments for so long I've forgotten what it was like to grow things in a garden!! Hope you have a great week!

I've had a few begonias given to me over the years, but this one is absolutely beautiful. I can see why you wanted it, and why your daughter wanted you to have it.
I think I can kill plants faster than Roger can.

Yes, I do think so.
I do okay with them outdoors, but not inside. That is pretty one.

Love your beautiful begonia, but alas I have no green thumb. I just pray it rains enough outside for the plants to survive.

What a lovely plant, they remind me of a holiday in Cornwall when I was a child. A house had giant begonias all along the front.

I'm the same with flowering plants. They last for awhile and then wither out.

Beautiful essay!

I wouldn't know the variety but if it's pink and it's a flower, I love it!

It is certainly a lovely picture. Begonians are such vibrant in color and delicate in looks.

I love begonias. I like the leaves as much as the flowers.

A stunning example of a begonia and I agree-they are quite magical and impossible to keep alive!

Begonias are so lush and colourful in a pot, - and the leaves are almost as decorative as the flowers. Love them.

Begonias are also my favourite plants, yet I have none in my gardeb. I have only very strong geraniums, which need only very little attention, for I am sometimes away for a long holiday.

Such pretty plants, we grow them as annuals here, but they do last until the first frosts. My friend always buys loads in late spring and fills a border, looks wonderful.

Why did it live for only such a short time? Begonias are pretty indestructible.
I hope you didn't commit murder?

I think you're right - Begonia rex. They are lovely and I've never managed to keep any for any length of time. It's a good thing children and animals are hardier - and can make their voices heard!

Yes they are from begonia family. And seems I also don't have a luck with this plant they seem like you have to take care of them right. Love your photo!

This is stunning.
I love flowers and always have them in our home, but apart from the common names, I'm afraid I would be clueless.

Amazing and little 'other-worldly' but I love that your daughter made your wish come true.

p.s. My husband is back in Coeur d'Alene with his high school buddy ready to ride their motorcycles to Glacier.
