Thanks for appending the facts, it helps put the final words in perspective. Your three lines say a great deal about the color of a short, unhappy, intense life. I also got somber feeling from this picture, which I don't normally associate with Van Gogh.

I can't see this picture as presaging death. If so, his whole life story is one of doom.
(I saw that you have appended some facts about the man he was)

But I have no quarrel with the form and impact of your haiku. Excellent, as always.
