L for ABC Wednesday

ABC Wednesday prompts the letter 'L' for this week. Thank you, MrsNesbitt!

Stumped for holiday gifts and with time running out, I was near panic. I do most of my searching/shopping online and when I found that this log splitter was available at a local home improvement store it seemed the perfect answer for a family gift.

This is no lightweight gadget as evidenced by the heavy breathing of the muscular customer service agent as he wedged it into the trunk of my car. Now what? It was too heavy for me to play with or to wrap.

I printed the above picture in 8x8 size, cut it into a jigsaw puzzle, put the little pieces in a small round can and wrapped the can in holiday paper.

It took a while for the family to complete the puzzle and figure out what it was and it took even longer for the family men to remove the thing from the car trunk.

It's been worth its weight in gold.

That's a great idea! Both the can and the splitter. Nothing like getting a present someone will honestly appreciate. :)

What a great way to 'package' a gift. A log splitter is something I have not seen; interesting.

Log splitter indeed! Practical, yet fun! Sure beats doing it he hard way!

What would Abe Lincoln have thought of this gadget (pretty big to call a "gadget", I guess). It sounds like the perfect gift with nifty gift delivery idea.

Nice story, perfectly written. I think the man in the house must love this new toy.

Well, it is a good L but I can't say I knew what it was at first sight. I like the way you packaged the present.

A smart idea for when you're giving big gifts. I must remember that one! And I guess you must have a log fire - I love log fires, so snug and cosy!

Nice choice for your "L" and a great choice for a family gift. That was a clever way to announce it, too.

What a wonderful way to "wrap" a family gift. I've never thought of using the trunk of my car. ;-) How clever. And then to make a jigsaw puzzle. Wonderful!

What a wonderful idea! First the gift itself (I remember many back-breaking hours splitting logs at our first house) and then the idea of making a puzzle!

I gave OH a box of coffee syrups as a gift and couldn't lift it. I wrapped it - top and sides only - on the floor where it sat and made him come find it. LOL!

Next time, I'm doing the puzzle thing, for sure!!

Lot of fancy about this strange machine !

Log-splitter: that must be one of the most original Ls this time! Well done.

The jigsaw puzzle was such a clever idea! I will have to keep that one in the back of my mind - I've had to give pictures of gifts before that were out of stock or taking too long to arrive..

I thought I'd replied to this already ... ?

Anyway, it made me smile and it was a great idea! I'll remember it next time I have a heavy gift to wrap. :)

What an inspired gift and such a clever way of presenting it. I bet it was the most popular gift by far - guys semm to love stuff they can mess around with! ;)

I wouldn't have thought a log splitter made a great gift, but the way you handled it (puzzle etc) was brilliant. Even I wouldn't mind a log splitter that way, even though I wouldn't know what to do with it (no logs to split over here)...

I wish I needed a log splitter, but if I ever do, I'll announce it just like you did!
