Ess for Totally Optional Prompts

Upside or Down ~ The Heart of Ess

a small slip of ivy
the heart of ess
curls round my thumb
fashions a smile
a sense of summer
symbolic and green

the original sin
shaped by an asp
morphs to blood stains
on spreadsheets and
scripts the bottom line
of snakes in the grass

sweet and sensual
serendipitous
curves to a spiral
the siren call
of the seasonal ess
a small slip of ivy

Totally Optional Prompts offers: Choose one letter this week and examine it, smell it, listen to it, hold it in the palm of your brain and feel it. Then write a poem about it.

The digital image is a copper wire twisted to an ess and photographed on top of a CD in a window's light. Resized in Irfranview, framed in MS Digital Image Suite.

I came to read your 3WW poems and fell in love with this, instead! But the line about spreadsheets...oh, dear. Makes me not want to go back to the office.

Thanks for visiting my heads and tail the other day.
Been busy at work and ran out of time.

Hope you have a wonderful day. Your picture to me reminds me out of shape paper clip.

Coffee is on.

Oh, you captured the ess so well! And I like the way you come back to the first line just the way an S curves at the top and bottom. Plus, the image of the ivy...love it!

Thanks for your comments to the kids. When I told them they had comments, they begged me for my address so they could check them out themselves. These kids are so into poetry; it makes my heart full!

I like how the seeming innocence of the first stanza leads into the sensual, sinful stanzas to follow. Wraps around nicely too, like the curves of the S. Sweet!

I didn't have time to read this this morning when I read your 'L' post, but I'm SO glad I came back to it! I love the poem, and the way you did your photo is really cool :D

As usual, a great poem--full of sensory appeal. Very creative! The line "morphs to bloodstains on spreadsheets" certainly suggests several interpretations. Were you thinking of big business and the recession here?

An interesting choice for your ABC Wednesday post as well; I doubt anyone else thought of a logsplitter:)

The original sin image is such a good one - adds a mystical, almost primeval tone to the whole thing. This really is an excellent piece of writing!

I like the way the sounds and shapes of the letter both weave their way through this poem

the ivy, the asp, snakes, sheets, the grass - it was all so visual like an unfolding story.. oh! why did you have to end it! sighhhh

I love the combination of words with the image. Thanks for the well-wishes for my brother. He is getting better... a nasty case of pneumonia. He is still resting quietly in the hospital.
