These remind me of a strange candy (from childhood) which claimed the name of Chicken Bones.
These are actually pine cones which have been rendered nude to the cob by squirrels. Piles of pine cone 'petals', picked clean of nuts and edible portions, surround these cone cobs.
Now I'm off to see the really interesting C's of this worldwide blogging meme participants!

cool take...
did you change your theme..things look differnt here!
I'll bet the squirrels enjoyed these pine cones as much as the children enjoyed the Chicken Bones!
I remember chicken bones. "Nude pine cones". I'll bet you could make a great poem from that
I love it! Chicken bones and nude pine cones! How great is that!!
Fun post!
Enjoy!
Sylvia
It could easily be a mystery picture for a competition! I thought they were woolly worms!
I think that's the first time you've posted a nude photo, isn't it :-)
Loved that phrase.
If you'd made it into a guessing game, I would never in my life have guessed this! What a great find!
glad you explained the pic - I see it now. thanks.
I like your description rendered nude by the squirrels, much better than chiken bone type candy. A very cool c post.
Very cleaver C!
I think my squirrels are enjoying the tomatoes in the garden so much they are leaving the pine cones alone!
Happy ABC Wednesday. I look forward to posting and to visiting every Wednesday morning.
Sherry
You ate those? Ewww! LOL!
Fascinating, though. I know squirrels are capable of huge amounts of damage, but as long as they stick to the cones, it's no problem, huh?
We have lots of pine cones but few squirrels, so I never knew that squirrels would nibble on pine cones.
I think you won the prize for originality. Great choice for the letter C.
Mighty hungry squirrels they be! Don't let your fingers get in the way!
This is a first for me - I've never seen cones eaten like that. Or perhaps I've never noticed. Loved this post as I learned something new.
I am having a problem with a couple of squirrels.
I love to feed birds but it is hard when the squirrels are so greedy that they eat so much of the seed and scare the birds away.
I planted some tomatoes and the squirrels ate chunks out of the first two which turned red.
They will even nibble on the green ones.
I never knew they would eat pine cones but it does not surprise me seeing as how they seen to devour most all things.
One squirrel will get so angry with me if I do not put seed out that it will sit on the front porch railing and just stare in my window until I notice it.
They are cute to watch ...I just wish they knew how to share:)
I never heard of the "chicken bones" candy. Weird name.
I thought your photo was corn cobs at first, the little ones we find in ancient native American ruins.
But when you specified pine cones, I realize I've seen the picked-clean ones, too. Great C!
You have taught me something new - and I have had plenty of them right outside my front door!
Chicken Bones... Funny name. But if it looks like those, very good name :-D Different photo, thanks.
Nude pine cones..interesting 'C'!
I've never heard of this, wonder how's the taste?
Well photgraphed! Certainly nothing left on those pine cones. Chichen bone candy? Weird!
